The City of Lansing offers a competitive wage and benefits package including medical, vision, dental, paid vacation, sick, personal and holiday leave.SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS & TRAINING: Failure to obtain or maintain job required qualifications will result in appropriate action consistent with the provision of the appropriate Collective Bargaining Agreement or Personnel Rules Must be able to be placed under the terms of the City of Lansing’s blanket bond Must not have pending or having been convicted of any felony charges and pass a criminal history record check Must pass an extensive background investigation that may cover review of attended schools and employment records, home environment, and personal traits and integrity EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS: The City of Lansing reserves the right to utilize equivalencies where deemed appropriate with regard to education and experience requirements Master’s Degree in Social Work from an accredited college/university 3-5 years’ post licensure practice experience and expertise in areas of addictions, children & adolescents, mental health, and community organization. Assessing physical, mental, social and economic needs of diverse populations. Experience includes a minimum of three to seven (3-5) years of social work case management and experience supervising others Current licensure with the State of Michigan as a Licensed Master of Social Worker (LMSW). Free from sanctions of the licensing board for violation(s) of practice standards 3 to 5 years’ experience as a Social Worker within the Police/Community Relations preferred 3 years’ experience counseling the mentally ill, homeless, those with opiate addictions, victims, and families of violent crime preferred Must possess and maintain a valid Driver’s License PHYSICAL CAPACITY REQUIREMENTS: This position requires the individual through assistance or on their own to hear, speak, and have finger dexterity and visual acuity. ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS OF POSITION: This position involves a combination of office and fieldwork, including the use of vehicles to visit and meet with individuals. The primary work hours for this position are Monday through Friday, during business hours. However, it may be necessary to work evenings, weekends, and holidays to meet the department's operational needs, as directed by management. ESSENTIAL POSITION FUCTIONS: The essential position functions listed below do not include all functions which may be found in the position as duties and responsibilities may be added, deleted or modified at any time. Manage/Supervise assigned full-time Police Social Worker ensuring staffing daily and reassign staff members to different task/areas as needed Train/Coach new/current Police Social Worker employees Administer and maintain case management/database system Provide feedback and communicate concerns to command staff Create/produce reports, letters, memorandums, and budget material reports as required Offer communication outreach sessions helping with educational and supportive servicesHelp individuals adjust to changes and challenges in their lives, such as illness, divorce, or unemployment and etc. Research, refer, and advocate for community resources Respond to crisis situations such as mental health emergencies, homelessness outreach, death of loved ones, and drug overdose etc. Act as a liaison by bridging the gap between Lansing Police Department and community agencies and organizations Work close with Community Mental Health for those that need assistance Compile statistics and generate reports and maintain records Use training and certification to assist in finding work, housing and necessities for homeless population
