Under limited direction, performs a variety of responsible, confidential, and professional-level, accounting, budget, and finance-related duties for the City of Laramie.
Acts as liaison with City departments, staff, outside agencies, and the general public.
Leads and assists other work units in identifying and resolving problems in transaction processing systems.
DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Plan, prioritize, and provide accounting, budget, financial reporting, finance, and support services for the City of Laramie. Monitor own workload and work activities with little daily direction. Meet the demands of multiple conflicting deadlines and complete work efficiently and accurately. Make good decisions in prioritizing work and communicate progress actively to the Finance Manager, Administrative Services Director, or designee.
- Provide accounting services which consist of reviewing, reconciling, and analyzing the general ledger for appropriate coding; processing transactions as required; preparing financial reports; analyzing transactions and material financial events; preparing journal entries or corrections, adjust accounting records. Identify and resolve potential issues in a timely manner.
- Lead and assist with software implementation and management within assigned functions. Monitor, evaluate, design, and maintain technical setup and workflow of system modules. Analyze system performance and recommend improvements.
- With oversight from the Finance Manager, Administrative Services Director, or designee, assist in leading the financial reporting function, including preparing required reports like the Annual Comprehensive Financial Report, Recommended Budget, and State Census. Assist with preparing internal reports like monthly financial statements and related documents as well.
QUALIFICATIONS:(A combination of experience and training, or the equivalent of, would be qualifying):
- Experience Includes: Three years of professional accounting experience performing accounting, financial reporting, or audit services
- Education Includes: Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited College or University in Accounting or closely related field. Transcripts are required.
- Advanced principles, practices, and terminology of governmental accounting and financial reporting; the internal control framework and its application
- Principles and practices of business data processing, particularly related to the processing of accounting information
- Applicable laws regulating public agency accounting and fiscal operations
- Principles and best practices of municipal budget preparation, planning, and control
- Work under pressure to meet multiple demanding deadlines
