The Accounting Technician supports the Administrative Services department by processing, analyzing, and recording financial data to maintain accurate accounting records. The role ensures that accounts payable, receivables, and financial transactions are accurately recorded and reconciled. This position also provides essential support in payroll, customer/vendor communication, administrative, and general accounting duties.
This role provides crucial support to the Administrative Services department and requires a high level of organizational skills, attention to detail, and the ability to effectively manage multiple tasks and deadlines. The Accounting Technician will be part of a collaborative team and will play a key role in maintaining accurate financial records and ensuring smooth operations within the department.
DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Process accounts payable transactions, including ensuring compliance with City policies, reviewing expenditure accounts, fulfilling reporting requirements, and completing payment processing. Perform weekly and monthly accounts payable check runs.
- Assist in reconciling the accounts payable general ledger accounts.
- Prepare allocations and enter general ledger entries in Tyler Munis as assigned.
- Work with various city departments to obtain information used for billing customers. Process accounts receivable billings monthly.
- Review accounts receivable customer accounts, rectify issues, and send out billing statements.
- Communicate actively with the supervisor to facilitate teamwork, discuss work progress, and coordinate efficient resolution of processing issues. Process new vendor and customer setups in Tyler Munis. Perform TIN matching.
- Complete monthly purchase card statements for the Administrative Services department, ensuring all deadlines are met.
- Assist department with final month-end processing of accounts payable and purchase card transactions.
- Maintain a monthly calendar of work to help ensure efficient and effective governmental operations.
- Process semi-monthly payroll for non-benefited employees, as assigned.
- Oversee the stale check and unclaimed property processes for the City of Laramie.
- Assist in writing and updating policies and procedures.
- Perform other duties as assigned to support the Administrative Services team.
QUALIFICATIONS: Any combination equivalent to experience and training that would provide the required knowledge, skills, and abilities would be qualifying. A typical way to obtain the knowledge, skills, and abilities would be:
- 2 years of experience in accounting or business office operations (governmental entity experience is preferred).
- Associate degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or related field, or equivalent experience.
