The City of Laramie is accepting applications for a Street Maintenance Worker. This position performs a variety of duties like maintain street sign, paving streets and alleys, clean storm drains, run dump trucks and motor graders and construct and repair City streets.
We’ll pay for your Class B CDL licensing, $300 annually towards clothing and $200 towards steel toe boots. Ideal candidates will have operational experience in street maintenance and road construction with strong problem-solving skills that can contribute to the progressive thinking within the department and excited to serve their community.
DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Maintain street signs and inventory; perform computer data entry.
- Use and operate a variety of tools and equipment used in the maintenance, repair, and construction of City streets including manual tools, light and heavy power driven equipment including street sweeper, front end loader, dump trucks, motor grader, water tanker, crack sealer, tamper, chipper, air compressor, jackhammer, rubber tire roller, steel wheel roller, patcher, snow blower, salt spreader, snow plow, sewer jet, back hoe, excavator, tandem truck and trailer, asphalt paver, trencher, tree chipper, welder, cutting torch, drill press, tractor; and other tools as needed.
- Assist in the repair of curbs, gutters, and manholes and the paving of streets and alleys.
- Remove and replace road surface material and debris; load, transport, and unload stones, gravel, dirt, supplies, and equipment as required.
- Install, repair, and clean storm drains, drainage ditches, and culverts; rebuild valley gutters and storm drains.
- Perform a variety of seasonal duties including plowing and blowing snow, sanding streets, salting streets, cutting ice, and hanging City Christmas decorations.
- Break up concrete or asphalt; build and set forms, and pour cement for curbs, gutters, sidewalks, and sidewalk ramps.
- Fill, patch, and resurface holes, cracks, and ditches.
- Paint parking stalls, crosswalks, curbs, and street lines.
QUALIFICATIONS (A combination of the following experience and training would be qualifying):
- Experience working in maintenance, repair, construction and equipment operation work.
- Possession of, or ability to obtain, a Commercial Driver License (Class B minimum) within 6 months.
