Provides security to the Municipal Court Building, judges, personnel, and public to preserve order and decorum in the courtroom and building.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
The intent of this job description is to provide a representative summary of the major duties and responsibilities performed by employees in this job. Employees may be requested to perform job-related tasks other than those specifically presented in this description.
- Provides direct service and security to the judge, maintaining order, safety, and decorum in the courtroom while court is in session.
- Maintains custody and escorts convicted individuals.
- Administers oaths to witnesses when directed.
- Explains court procedures and answers questions.
- Attends to the jury, ensuring proper protocol is followed, and facilitates communication between the jury and judge.
- Monitors and maintains building security via surveillance cameras and ensures doors and access areas are locked and secured.
- Maintains custody of Capias defendant and/or the custody of warants when necessary.
- Removes, detains, or arrests individuals who are unruly, in contempt of court, or violent in the courtroom.
- Will be required to drive a City vehicle for City business use.
- Performs other duties as assigned.

Required Education and Experience
High School Diploma or G.E.D.
At least three (3) years of relevant experience in law enforcement or court security.
Required Certifications or License
Peace Officer certification by the Texas Commission on Law Enforcement (TCOLE) is required. City of Laredo must be the primary holder of the Peace Officer License to maintain employment with the City of Laredo.
Court Security Certification must be obtained within 12 months of employment.

Valid Licenses or Certifications
Valid Texas Drivers License. If applicant holds an out-of-state license, a State of Texas Driver's License must be obtained within 6 months of employment.
As part of the minimum requirements for all positions with the City of Laredo, a thorough background check and certified school transcripts will be required from all applicants who are offered employment.
Effective February 24, 1997, all selected applicants are required to undergo a drug and alcohol test prior to employment.
Effective January 7, 2008, all persons in safety-sensitive functions/positions, as per City of Laredo Drug and Alcohol Policy definition, shall be subject to random drug and alcohol testing.
