Oversees review of building plans to comply with International Code Council (ICC) codes, as well as local and national regulations. Leads and trains plans examiners, provides project management support, and ensures compliance with applicable codes, ordinances, and zoning requirements.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

- Supervises, directs, and evaluates assigned staff. Supervisory functions include: makes hiring and termination decisions; prioritizes assignments and directs work; develops and oversees employee work schedules and approves time away from work; provides and/or facilitates employee training and development; approves/processes employee concerns and problems and counsels or disciplines as appropriate; completes employee performance appraisals; determines or makes recommendations regarding new hire salaries and salary changes; and acts as liaison between employees and management.
- Conducts plan reviews for proposed projects to ensure compliance with applicable codes, ordinances, and zoning requirements.
- Serves as the primary point of contact for applicable stakeholders; organizes and coordinates sites and development process, monitors project status, schedules and participates in preapplication, pre-permit, pre-construction, and development review committee meetings. Evaluates, resolves, and responds to citizen and stakeholder inquiries, complaints, or concerns; seeks solutions to design and construction code discrepancies.
- Creates, updates, and maintains departmental forms, checklists, reports, and/or other applicable files.
- Provides support and assistance to the other City divisions, as needed.
- Performs related work as required.

Required Education and Experience
Bachelor's Degree from an accredited* college or university in Architecture, Engineering, or a related field
At least five (5) years of experience in code ordinance, construction, or a related field
*Council of Higher Education Accreditation (C.H.E.A.)
Required Licenses or Certifications
Valid Texas Driver License. If applicant holds an out-of-state license, a State of Texas Driver License must be obtained within 6 months of employment.
**Continued employment is contingent on successfully obtaining required certification(s) and/or licenses(s) within the specified period of time indicated above from time of hire.
- International Code Council (ICC) Residential Building Plan Examiner Certification must be obtained within twelve (12) months of employment**
Desirable Licenses or Certifications
International Code Council Plans Examiner in Commercial is preferred
