Job Summary:
We are seeking enthusiastic individuals with prior athletic experience to join our team! This position would be supporting our athletics, special events, or day camp programs. This position offers a flexible schedule and an opportunity to make a difference in the community by assisting with various recreational activities.Key Responsibilities:
Assist in organizing and implementing athletic programs, special events, or day camp activities.
Ensure a safe and enjoyable environment for participants.
Provide excellent customer service to program attendees and their families.
Support setup, takedown, and maintenance of recreational equipment and facilities.
Follow all City policies and procedures to ensure program quality and participant satisfaction.
Work Schedule:
Hours and shifts vary weekly. May include weekends, evenings, and holidays.
Weekly assignments are on an "as needed" basis and range from no hours to up to 15 hours per week.
Preferred Qualifications:
Previous experience in athletics, coaching, or recreational programming.
Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
Availability to work a flexible schedule, including weekends and evenings.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Management

Technical
- Helps facilitate sports programming activities for both youth and adults
- Assists coaching sports activities for all levels
- Assists with facilitation of sports leagues including help with drills, flow of the game and game rules
- May open, close, secure a park/facility and ensure all rules and regulations of the park/facility are enforced
- May be directed to complete daily safety inspections of facility and parkland to ensure safety and aesthetic standards are met
- Assists with maintenance of equipment and facility as directed
- Distributes information and equipment to teams/individuals as directed
- Maintains communication with Supervisors/Programmers as necessary

EMERGENCY RESPONSE STATUS: As a condition of employment, City of Largo employees will be required to work as directed during an undeclared and/or a declared emergency. All employees are subject to recall around the clock for emergency response operations, which may require irregular work hours, work at locations other than the normal work location, and may include duties other than those specified in the official job description.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Education and Experience:
- High school diploma or general education diploma (GED)
- One year experience in athletic-related activities is preferred
- Customer Service skills required
- Some positions may require a valid driver’s license, depending upon assignment
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Ability to give, receive, and follow oral communications
- Ability to deal with people tactfully
- Ability to do light to heavy manual work
WORK ENVIRONMENT & PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
WORK ENVIRONMENT: 5% inside a climate controlled building; 95% outside sometimes in hot, humid or inclement conditions.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: The essential functions of the job require: sitting approximately one (1) hour per day, standing and walking approximately seven (7) hours in any assigned (8) hour shift (or prorated based on the number of hours per shift). The work requires frequent: bending/stooping, climbing, crawling, fine manipulations, grasping, kneeling, pulling, pushing, reaching, repetitive motion, lifting/carrying of objects weighing up to 60 lbs., occasional lifting/carrying of objects weighing over 60 lbs.
SENSORY REQUIREMENTS: Hearing: Enough to understand what others are saying in normal conversation in person and on the telephone. Speaking: Enough to communicate orally with others in person and on the telephone, and to be able to acknowledge and follow instructions. Seeing: Enough to operate a vehicle and equipment.
DRIVING REQUIREMENTS: Some positions may require a valid Florida Driver's License or a valid license from another state for occasional driving (depending on assignment).
OTHER: The work requires the ability to operate the following machines: small utility vehicles, copiers, printers and computers. Workers may occasionally use a laminating machine, printers and helium tank.
