Join our Nature Center Team as an Entry-Level Receptionist, where every day is filled with friendly faces, fascinating animals, and the beauty of the great outdoors.
Hours/Days for this position are Sunday through Tuesday. Up to 20 hours a week.
What You’ll Do:
Greet and assist a steady flow of visitors with enthusiasm and warmth
Provide information about our nature center, exhibits, and programs
Perform basic clerical tasks following well-established procedures
Support staff in daily operations and help care for educational animals
Answer calls, respond to inquiries, and direct guests as needed

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Management

Technical
- Provides customer service to visitors
- Makes simple postings to various clerical and fiscal records
- Signs for all deliveries and mail distributions
- Serves as the department receptionist, answering and directing telephone calls and routing visitors to the appropriate location; assists the public in preparing forms and statements, and in processing complaints
- Copies and files daily reports and supporting documentation for dissemination internally and to other agencies
- Assists other City staff in obtaining information, receiving copies of reports, printing and distributing reports, and taking and distributing messages
- Prepares simple records involving numerical, tabular, or personal history data
- Types basic information on cards, labels, or similar reference sources; sorts documents according to routine classifications
- Opens, sorts, and delivers mail; delivers office supplies and similar items to various locations
- Prepares records and files for microfilming or archive storage, and creates new books and file folders for new records and files
- Inputs and retrieves data from a computer system; ensures data has accurately been entered into computerized records; compares internal department records to external agency databases
- Participates in the maintenance and upkeep of legal records and record keeping systems

EMERGENCY RESPONSE STATUS: As a condition of employment, City of Largo employees will be required to work as directed during an undeclared and/or a declared emergency. All employees are subject to recall around the clock for emergency response operations, which may require irregular work hours, work at locations other than the normal work location, and may include duties other than those specified in the official job description.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Education and Experience:
- High school diploma or general education diploma (GED), and two (2) years experience in office or related clerical work; or an equivalent combination of training and experience.
- Valid Driver's License
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Knowledge of business English, spelling, arithmetic, and office practices and procedures
- Ability to:
- meet and deal courteously with the general public
- understand and follow oral and written instructions
- learn assigned clerical tasks readily and to adhere to prescribed routines
- make arithmetic computations and tabulations accurately and with reasonable speed
- type and operate a computer keyboard
WORK ENVIRONMENT & PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
Work Environment: 99% inside a climate controlled building; 1% outside which may include driving.
Physical Requirements: The essential functions of the job require: sitting approximately six (6) hours per day, standing approximately one (1) hour per day, and walking approximately one (1) hour per day. The work often requires: bending/stooping, climbing, crawling, fine manipulations, grasping, kneeling, pulling, pushing, reaching, repetitive motion, lifting/carrying of objects weighing up to 15 pounds; occasionally lifting/carrying of objects weighing 15 to 44 pounds.
Sensory Requirements: Hearing: Ability to understand what others are saying in normal conversation in person and on the telephone. Speaking: Ability to communicate orally with others in person and on the telephone. Seeing: Ability to see and read computer monitor screens, detect color coding, read fine and normal print, and drive.
Driving Requirements: Requires occasional driving and possession of a valid Florida Driver's License.
Technology: The work requires ability to operate telephones, smart phones, tablets, photocopiers, printers, desktop and/or laptop computers, calculators and all associated software.
