ENVIRONMENTAL FACTORS
Position functions outdoors with frequent to constant exposure to various weather conditions; exposure to noise, fumes, dust and mechanical hazards; frequent use of protective clothing and equipment.
PHYSICAL FACTORS
Position requires moderate heavy physical effort; ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds; motor skills sufficient to operate various hand and power tools.
WORK SITUATION FACTORS
Position involves competing demands, performing multiple tasks, working to deadlines, occasional work beyond normal business hours, and responding to customer issues. Regular attendance is an essential function of this job to ensure continuity of services. Position is subject to drug testing in accordance with applicable State and Federal regulations and City of Las Cruces policies.

Full-time, regular, non-exempt, union-represented position
This position is graded at BC11
Schedules, assigns and oversees daily activities of work crew; inspects completed work is in compliance with standards and safety requirements, provides on-the-job training to new employees, instructs crew on proper work procedures; serves as technical support to other workers; maintains work records and log books; serves as a liaison with the supervisor.
Provides performance feedback, trains, and instructs employees to meet established goals and objectives; participates in staff evaluations with designated supervisor to provide impartial feedback regarding performance; assures that staff maintain safety standards and adhere to policies and procedures for efficient and safe operations.
Reviews, maintains, and updates records in various formats, mediums, and automated systems to ensure data integrity and adherence to internal controls, practices, and policies; demonstrates continuous effort to improve operations, decrease turnaround times, streamline work processes, and work cooperatively and jointly to provide quality seamless services.
Performs trash removal; cuts and removes weeds; prunes trees and shrubs.
Cleans around buildings and facilities; maintains rest rooms; performs graffiti removal.
Landscapes and plants foliage; applies pesticides.
Inspects irrigation systems to ensure proper operation.
Maintains playground sand surfacing; digs and fills holes.
Serves as acting district supervisor as necessary.
Valid driver's license is required. Position requires an acceptable driving record in accordance with City policy. Considerable knowledge of: Methods, materials, tools and standard practices regarding grounds maintenance; OSHA regulations and child labor laws; practices and principles of effective employee supervision.
Ability to: lead, assign and oversee the work of a crew; perform basic reading, writing and mathematics; develop and maintain effective working relationships; safely operate power and hand tools and motorized vehicles and equipment; operate two-way communications devices; work effectively with diverse work crews with minimal supervision; adhere to city and state regulations, policies and procedures.
