Researches, collects, tracks, and analyzes data from various systems and resources to develop crime trends, patterns, and relationships to support public safety efforts and the Las Cruces Police Department (LCPD).

Full-time; regular, exempt position
This Position is graded RX14
- Conducts and performs background research, collects information and data, analyzes criminal cases and activity, and identifies pertinent information to support investigations; provides various special and recurring reports, forms, and documents to provide accurate and timely information; advises supervisor of significant analytical and critical developments.
- Designs and develops crime analysis techniques and methodologies to examine crime activities, patterns, and trends; develops specialized crime link analysis, event flow analysis, activity charting, and location analyses; conducts research to perform complex statistical analysis, random statistical samplings, correlation and regression analysis, and probability studies.
- Develops and distributes analytical data related to crime series, trends, patterns, and suspect information to improve proactive and reactive law enforcement capabilities; develops maps of criminal activities using Geographic Information System (GIS) database; uses established GIS software programs, commands, and compilation methods to generate and utilize spatial overlays and models.
- Reviews, maintains, and updates records in various formats, mediums, and automated systems to ensure data integrity and adherence to internal controls, practices, and policies; demonstrates continuous effort to improve operations, decrease turnaround times, streamline work processes, and work cooperatively and jointly to provide quality seamless services.
- Responds to requests for research and analysis as authorized and in accordance with established policies and procedures to develop investigative police data and information; develops and maintains intelligence contacts with various law enforcement organizations and partners.
- May visit crime scenes, conduct interviews, and correlate data and evidence to record and document additional information on the crime and the criminals.
LICENSES/CERTIFICATIONS
Valid driver's license is required. Position requires an acceptable driving record in accordance with City of Las Cruces policy. Must pass a thorough background investigation.Considerable knowledge of: principles, practices, techniques, activities, rules, and regulations related to the operations and functions of the position and services provided; legal and law enforcement terminology, types of crimes, and offense codes; current principles of record keeping and records management; principles and practices of effective research methods and data analysis, customer service, and problem resolution techniques; occupational and environmental safety and health hazards, and safety practices; safe and effective use and maintenance of related tools, materials, and equipment; current methods and standards for preparing effective business correspondence and report writing; correct English usage, grammar, composition, spelling, punctuation and vocabulary; functions and use of a GIS database, ESRI ARC/INFO software applications, graphics applications, and spatial models for computer analysis; business and personal computers and related software applications; City organization, operations, policies, and procedures to effectively perform the required functions and duties of the position.
