The City of Lauderhill offers diverse internship opportunities to students and recent graduates from accredited academic institutions in an effort to provide them with valuable hands-on experience with which to parallel their academic studies. In this case, students will be exposed to projects in a municipal government setting. As they prepare to commence their future professional careers, it is our hope that this experience will provide them with the necessary tools to succeed in their professions while instilling in them a deeply rooted interest in pursuing careers as public servants.
All City Interns will work under the direction of the respective Department Head. The position will be responsible for technical work in the corresponding area/department.The following duties and functions, as outlined herein, are intended to be representative of the type of tasks performed within this position. They are not listed in any order of importance. The omission of specific statements of the duties or functions does not exclude them from the position if the work is similar, related, or a logical assignment for this description. Other duties may be required and assigned.

Assist in all administrative functions of the department.
Assist in needs analysis for projects and researches solutions for needs.
Assists in updating department processes and procedures.
Assists in creating reports and ensuring compliance with local, state and federal regulations.
PROGRAM TERM:
2 to 9 months (to be determined by the department)
AVAILABLE POSITIONS:
The following departments have internships available: Administration, City Clerk, City Commission, Finance, Human Resources, Parks & Recreation, Planning & Zoning, Public Works, Utilities
EXPECTATIONS:
Candidates selected for an Internship will be expected to comply with all City and Department rules and regulations. In addition, candidates will be expected to complete all tasks and attend any events deemed necessary by the Department.
INTERNSHIP CLASSIFICATIONS:
1) For Education Credit
Internships Undergraduate or graduate student attending an accredited college/university, where the degree requires completion of an on-the- job internship in the field of major. Internship candidates must provide the university/college course number, obtain approval from the City Manager; pay for the course and the City will place them in an on the job learning environment that will be compatible to the course.
2) Paid Internship
Compensated at $20/hr. The student is placed in a department which will provide experience in the course of study the student is seeking. Time period is set for 2 to 9 months, and work hours are coordinated between the student and the department (not to exceed 29 hours per week). This requires that the intern be enrolled in an accredited college/university pursuing either a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in the fields of study outlined in the corresponding internship posting. The City offers a limited amount of paid internships based on funding allocation in the City’s annual adopted budget.
3) Unpaid Internship
The student is willing to work up to 29 hrs. per week as an unpaid intern in order to obtain some experience in his/her field of study.1. Provide proof of enrollment - transcript (unofficial or official) showing active enrollment in an accredited college/university
2. Submit a resume
3. Provide 2 references (Professional and/or from professors)
4. Maintain an overall GPA of a 2.5
5. Be able to work up to 29 hours with a flexible schedule depending on Department needs
Special Requirements:
Possession of a valid State of Florida Class "E" driver's license.
