What are the responsibilities and job description for the Utility Service Worker I position at City of Lauderhill?
- Inspects, cleans, maintains and repair water transmission and distribution systems, wastewater collection systems, and related equipment according to prescribed standards and codes.
- Performs a variety of technical and maintenance duties, including but not limited to installing, maintaining and repairing water mains; installing, maintaining and installing new services lines (water and sewer), fire hydrants, water meters and appurtenances, lubricates motors and equipment, replaces packing in pumps and valves and replaces wiring and bearings in motors and pumps.
- Locates valves in water mains prior to required repairs. Repairs valves, operates de-watering pumps and makes service taps.
- Excavates earth manually surrounding job-site prior to repairs and servicing as needed.
- Completes daily work orders of assigned task.
- Exercises care and safety in the use of equipment and tools. Performs minor maintenance on equipment and tools.
- Investigates water usage; restores services as directed.
- Tests City water for Chlorine Levels.
- Maintains accurate records of work in progress and completed.
- Assists other utility crews as required.
- Responds to after-hours emergency calls, responds as a member of the severe weather/hurricane response crew.
- Notes and records any deficiencies of installations and appurtenances throughout utility system.
- Receives, reviews, prepares and/or submits various records and reports including work orders, location reports, activity reports, mileage logs, etc.
- Operates a variety of equipment such as motorized vehicles, trailers, power tools, hand tools, plumbing tools, pumps, generators, pressure cleaner, valve exercising machines, torches, etc.
- Sets up Proper MOT for traffic control.
- Interacts and communicates with various groups and individuals such as Utilities supervisors and employees, City employees, engineers, contractors and utility customers.
- Complies with all OSHA regulations, City policies and safety requirements.
Special Requirements (must be obtained within one (1) year from date of hire)
- State of Florida Commercial Driver's License (CDL) Class "B"
- Maintenance of Traffic (MOT Certification) - Basic
- Florida Department of Environmental Protection (FDEP) Water Distribution System Operator Class 3 License or a Florida Water and Pollutions Control Operators Association "Class C" Certification in Wastewater Collections
