What are the responsibilities and job description for the Diesel Mechanic position at City of Lawrenceburg?
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: The diesel mechanic maintains and repairs the City’s vehicles. Strong trouble shooting and diagnostic skills, as well as transmission, clutch, suspension, brakes, and engine experience is needed. The diesel mechanic will conduct regular preventative maintenance on service trucks, including inspection, tire rotation and oil change. Ability to diagnose and repairs basic equipment wiring. Works in conjunction with other mechanics and foreman in the City’s garage to perform repairs and preventative maintenance on gasoline engines as needed. Perform minor and major repairs on trucks and trailers and maintain accurate records of each repair performed on vehicles. Receive and perform verbal and written orders from Mayor, General Foreman, and Vehicle Maintenance Foreman or as designated. Ensure that proper safety and incident reporting procedures are followed and reported to the Supervisor or person in charge. Perform all other labor related duties as required, in all departments.
EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE: High School diploma or equivalent. Must have a minimum of five years’ experience as Diesel Mechanic. Must be ASE Diesel certified or higher certification equivalent. Must be able to meet the requirements to maintain certification and to attend any additional training that the City deems necessary for the position.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS: Must have, or be able to obtain within 90 days, a valid Class B CDL driver’s license. Must be 18 years of age or older. Must be proficient in operating standard transmission vehicles and meet the DOT driving requirements. Must be able to get along well with others, follow instructions, be professional, pleasant, well-groomed, and well-mannered. Must be able to climb ladders and work around heavy machinery. Must be able to read and communicate in a positive and respectful manner with co-workers, other departments, and the general public. Must have the ability to understand and carry out written and oral instructions, and perform all duties as assigned. Must be willing to perform less skilled or any other miscellaneous duties as required in the same or other departments.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: May be required to take a physical exam. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to use hands and arms. Must be able to climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch, walk, bend. The employee must be able to lift and pull 50 lbs. and lift and pull up to 100 lbs. with mechanical or physical assistance.
