The Pool Manager performs mid-level work that requires previous training, complex tasks, moderate supervision, and has a limited level of decision-making discretion. He / she is the leader of ensuring the safety of the patrons, enforcing pool rules, assisting with facility maintenance, and assisting the Lifeguards and Aquatic Attendants with the operation of the City pools to fulfill the purpose and mission of the Aquatics Program.

  • Each year you are a returning employee you get an additional .50 to your hourly rate up to 4 years.

Essential Duties & Required Qualifications

  • Assists and supervises the Aquatic Attendants and the Lifeguards.
  • Coordinates and schedules Lifeguards and Aquatic Attendants accordingly.
  • Manages cash handling procedures.
  • Assists Recreation & Aquatic Coordinator in the hiring procedures.
  • Assists Recreation & Aquatic Coordinator with aquatic events.
  • Prevents accidents and minimizes or eliminates hazardous situations.
  • Recognizes and responds accurately to all emergency situations performs appropriate water rescues.
  • Communicates with Recreation & Aquatic Coordinator, the need for additional assistance or equipment.
  • Assists & conducts in-service training of Aquatics staff under supervision of Recreation & Aquatic Coordinator.
  • Observes and enforces all rules and regulations of the facility pertaining to both staff and patrons. Educates the staff and patrons and informs them of the need for rules and regulations.
  • Assists in planning, implementing, and enforcing staff rotation. Prepares and maintains appropriate activity reports, logs, and chemical testing.
  • Performs adjustments to the chemical and filtration systems at the pool as trained and authorized by the Recreation / Aquatic Coordinator.
  • Performs various pool maintenance functions such as but not limited to, back-washing, cleaning baskets and filters, vacuuming pool, policing pool and pump room areas, etc.
  • Responsible for handling questions, concerns, and resolving complaints & problems from patrons, contract instructors, lifeguards, and Aquatic Attendants.
  • Presents and maintains a professional appearance and demeanor, including wearing appropriate uniform or attire and exhibiting respect and enthusiasm as duties and responsibilities are carried out.
  • Knowledge and competency in American Red Cross Lifeguarding standards as well as facility specific emergency procedures for the Leander Aquatics Department.
  • Other related duties as assigned.
  • Required Education and Experience :

  • Minimum age of 17 years old by May 1 of the current year.
  • High School diploma or its equivalent.
  • A minimum of one season (10 weeks) of full-time or equivalent part-time lifeguard experience.
  • Must be available to work irregular hours and at various intervals, including weekends, holidays and evening hours.
  • Must have reliable transportation to and from work shifts.
  • Certificates, Licenses, Registrations :

  • Must hold valid American Red Cross Lifeguarding with First Aid and CPR / AED for the Professional Rescuer certifications.
  • Preferred Education and / or Experience :

  • A minimum of six weeks of experience working with youth sports programs.
  • A minimum of six weeks of experience with facility operations of a pool or similar environment.
  • Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

  • Must have good knowledge of pool safety and first aid.
  • Must be able to work well with people of all ages and dispositions as well as be an effective leader.
  • Ability to conduct oneself in a professional manner.
  • Knowledge of philosophy, objectives, and requirements to provide safe recreational and work environments.
  • Ability to function effectively under direct supervision and to develop effective working relationships with fellow employees and the public.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to receive directions and to follow oral and written instructions.
  • Ability to handle multiple tasks.
  • Exhibit professional work habits including reliability, dependability, creativity, and demonstration of enthusiasm for the job.
  • Physical Demands & Additional Information

    Working Environment
