Performs entry-level work with routine complexity. Provides assistance in the daily operation in various areas of the Library. Duties include assisting patrons in their use of the Library, providing administrative support to the supervisors, providing support to Library programs and collection maintenance, and checking-in and processing Library materials. Works under moderate supervision, with limited latitude for the use of initiative and independent judgement.

- Provides customer service to Library users in person and on the phone.
- Answers informational and reference questions for all ages regarding the Library's resources and provide directions to various library sections or other facilities.
- Assists patrons in circulation related services, such as establishing and renewing Library memberships, inter-library loan requests, reserving books and collects payments at circulation desk.
- Assists patrons of all ages with technology support including access to library computers, use of online resources, use of computer software available on public computers, and use of photocopier, scanner, and fax machine.
- Assists patrons of all ages in navigating the Library online catalog.
- Assists in receiving and sorting returned library materials.
- Assists in shelving Library materials when needed.
- Assists in processing and receiving new Library materials, and repairing damaged Library material
- Provides administrative support to librarians for collection development, maintenance, and supervisors.
- Attends meetings and training sessions.
- Performs security, light cleaning, and straightening tasks necessary to open and close the Library facility.
- Assists in compiling statistics relating to various programs and services and preparing communications, reports, and mailings.
- Assists in Library outreach and marketing.
- Provides support for Library programs by designing, preparing promotional materials, monthly book displays and setting up and cleaning up program spaces, and assisting during events.
- Ability to work under pressure with few mistakes.
- Exceptional customer service must be a high priority.
- Performs related duties as assigned.
- High School Diploma, or its equivalent.
- Minimum of one year of customer service experience.
- Minimum of six months working in a public or school library OR earned a minimum of 4 credit hours from an accredited college or university in Library Science or a related field.
- Ability to work hours other than the regular daytime schedule such as mornings, afternoons, evenings, and weekends.
- Valid Driver's License from any U.S. State. Must be able to obtain a Texas license within 90 days of hire, per state law.
- Must have First Aid and CPR/AED certification within six months of hire date.
- Active/current First Aid and CPR/AED certifications.
- Ability to speak Spanish.
- Experience working for a government entity, such as a city, county, or state.
- Ability to learn municipal library operations, library technology systems, and the Dewey Decimal System.
- Ability to organize and maintain a large number of various types of library materials.
- Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.
- Ability to follow detailed verbal and written instructions.
- Ability to communicate with other employees and the public in a courteous and diplomatic manner.
- Skill in handling multiple tasks and prioritizing.
- Analyze situations and adopt quick, effect, and reasonable courses of action.
- Ability to work hours other than the regular daytime schedule such as mornings, afternoons, evenings, and weekends.
- Knowledge of writing with proper punctuation, spelling, and grammar.
- Skill in using computers and related software applications.
- Ability to develop and maintain effective working relationships with City employees, the public, elected officials, and boards and commissions.
