THE CITY OF LEAWOOD, KANSAS, is looking for a

Division Chief of Fire Prevention

This leadership role provides the Deputy Fire Chief and Fire Chief with executive-level support, policy analysis, strategic operations, and department management. As the Division Chief of Fire Prevention, you will be designated as the City’s Fire Marshal and coordinate the City’s community risk reduction efforts. You will assist the department in strategizing delivery methods and assessing the performance outcomes of its public fire safety education, fire and arson investigation, and other services.

Your expertise will help drive operational efficiency and effectiveness, supporting the City’s mission to serve the Leawood community to the best of our abilities. You will participate in the Fire Department’s ongoing accreditation activities to help maintain its International Accredited agency standing and Insurance Services Office (ISO) Rating of 1.

Your work responsibilities may include :

Minimum Qualifications : Must have a minimum of a bachelor’s degree and ten (10) years of increasingly responsible fire service experience with five (5) years of supervisory experience. Must currently hold Fire Officer II Certification, IAAI Certified Fire Investigator Certification, and a nationally recognized fire inspection certification. (Nationally recognized fire inspection certification includes ICC Fire Inspector II or NFPA Certified Fire Protection Specialist).

Preferred Qualifications : Certification as a Kansas State Emergency Medical Technician—KBEMS, Juvenile Firesetter Training, Expert Witness Credential in fire origin & cause or equivalent certification and Chief Fire Officer (CFO) or Fire Marshal (FM) designation from the Center for Professional Credentialing.

Full Salary Range : $111,723 - $156,412 / annually
