Description
Job Summary
Responsible for running daily activities for a youth day camp including supervising a specific age group. Responsible for providing an environment that is safe nurturing healthy educational and fun. Provides campers with the opportunity to develop new skills and make positive contributions at camp and in the community. Responsible for small groups of campers Leader in Training (LIT) Program and volunteers as assigned.Knowledge Skills and Abilities

- Follows camp policies to ensure the safety and welfare of participants.
- Organizes; promotes; leads; teaches; and conducts several activities of the camp program including environmental education; arts & crafts; sports and games; drama/music; swimming; and special events.
- Inspects facilities; equipment; and programs for safety hazards; corrects improper or hazardous situations and reports conditions to Camp Director.
- Reports to Head Counselor on activities; participant needs; program suggestions; and problems; recommends course of action as necessary.
- Leads special activities for entire camp in a particular area of interest as desired and qualified.
- Participates in program planning during staff training and meetings with Camp Director and staff.
- Assists in swimming instruction of campers under the supervision of a certified Water Safety Instructor.
- Administers basic first aid and CPR as qualified in the event of injuries to campers.
- Communicates with head counselor daily about camp activities and camper(s)behaviors or incidents.
Qualifications

Age 14 or older and currently enrolled in or graduated from high school or equivalent.

Knowledge of the philosophy and objectives of day camp programming and its application to individuals and groups.

Knowledge of methods involved in planning; organizing; and conducting camp activities including field trips and special events.

Leadership ability and skill in one or more camp related activities.

Ability to motivate campers, ability to speak clearly and concisely before different age groups.

Ability to supervise and manage a small group of campers of varying ages.

Certification in CPR and Standard First Aid or equivalent.

- The candidate is required to stand, walk, and run up to 80% of the time

- The candidate frequently lifts 10lbs, occasionally 30lbs, and seldom lifts 60lbs.
- The position has normal vision requirements with or without correction.
- Equipment operated includes medical equipment (AED).
- This position works primarily outside in the heat and inside without A/C; in addition, may require participation in aquatic activities including supervision in swim lessons, open swim, or swimming at a public lake, park, or beach only with certified lifeguards are on duty. It may include daily to weekly rides on a school bus.
