DEFINITION OF WORK
Performs a wide range of physical and semi‐skilled work associated with the operation, maintenance, and construction of the gas distribution system under the direction of higher-level construction personnel. Works independently on some assignments performing field service work and leak surveys.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Frequent contacts include customers, city inspectors, and various department employees and supervisors involved in maintaining the pipeline system. Must communicate clearly.
DRIVER’S LICENSE
Must have a Valid Driver License with clean record. CDL Class-B license is preferred.
EDUCATION
A High School Diploma or G.E.D is required.
EXPERIENCE
Must have one year as Utility Worker experience.
OTHER REQUIREMENTS
Must qualify within the approved City of Lebanon Operator Qualification Program, subject to the current requirements of said program. Must receive a meets expectations or higher evaluation on annual review.
ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
Will be required to work on‐call on a rotating basis and will be required to work emergency callouts and be able to work occasional extensive hours.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS, WORK ENVIRONMENT, AND REASONABLE ACCOMMODATIONS
Must be able to lift 50 lbs. though greater weights may at times be lifted, carried, and or placed. Must be able to bend, stoop, crawl, stretch, and walk. Must be able to climb. Must be able to enter and exit vehicles on a regular basis. Dexterity and fitness sufficient to safely operate, utilize and maintain tools and equipment used in work. This is medium work requiring the exertion of 50 pounds of force occasionally, up to 20 pounds of force frequently, and up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects. Work requires stooping, kneeling, walking, and fingering. Vocal communication is required for expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word. Hearing is required to perceive information at normal spoken word levels. Visual acuity is required for use of measuring devices, operation of machines, operation of motor vehicles or equipment, determining the accuracy and thoroughness of work and observing general surroundings and activities; the worker is subject to inside and outside environmental conditions, extreme cold, extreme heat, and atmospheric conditions.
Will be exposed to the elements of nature including extreme heat and cold, rain, snow and other inclement weather conditions. General physical and working conditions are such that minor cuts, abrasion bruises or burns may be encountered with various jobs. Under general supervision, employee must work independently. Mandatory overtime is sometimes required. Work environment can be dirty with unpleasant odors. Work hours are varied requiring work on evenings, weekends, and some holidays.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Performs duties to City guidelines and established safety procedures.
- On some assignments, performs plastic joining.
- Installs pressure control equipment and operates those that are two inches and smaller.
- On some assignments, operates internally powered heavy construction equipment (e.g., hydro crane, backhoe, bobcat, etc.).
- On some assignments performs and documents audits on tools, equipment and vehicles.
- Digs and back‐fills excavations using manual and/or powered tools and equipment.
- Makes temporary and/or permanent pavement repairs.
- Cuts, threads, and prepares pipe for fusing. Tests completed joints and applies protective coatings.
- Inspects, identifies, maintains, and operates basic types of mainline pipeline valves.
- On some assignments, reads and collects district pressure charts.
- Assembles, alters, rebuilds, tests, and repairs meter set assemblies and restores service to appliances.
- Performs turn‐ons, closes, and seasonal lights.
- Extracts information from and inputs data into computer systems. Uses computer to update records and order material.
- Effectively completes related paperwork, forms, and documentation.
- On some assignments performs leak surveys.
- Connects, operates and maintains tools.
- Assists other work groups, as needed.
- Responsible for the safe operation and driver inspection of City vehicles.
- On some assignments, will be required to obtain and maintain Class‐B driver’s license.
- Performs various other equivalent and lower‐grade functions that the employee has been trained or for which training will be provided
