ESSENTIAL DUTIES
Receives, records, directs, and transmits messages by radio and telephone, prepares and maintains communication records, greets, and directs public visiting the station by performing the following duties.
Receives and transmits routine messages pertaining to arrest, accidents, stolen property, motor vehicles, other law enforcement emergencies, complaints and dispatches units as required. Receives radio traffic from units.
Maintains log on all radio messages received or transmitted as required.
Provides routine assistance to citizens supplying information or directing them to proper authority.
Monitors patrol units and keeps accurate information with the location of each unit handling a complaint or traffic violation.
Assists in the coordination of services as requested by officers (i.e., wreckers, utility crews, etc.)
Operates TIES, NCIC, and other related computer terminals searching files, updating records, sending, and receiving messages and obtaining information requested by personnel and investigative units.
Receives and transmits facsimiles and maintains fax machine in working order.
Other duties as required.

Ability to acquire and relay information accurately.
Ability to react quickly and calmly in emergency situations and to determine the proper course of action.

REQUIREMENTS
HS Diploma or GED required.
Must possess exceptional verbal and written communication skills, strong computer skills.
Must be reasonably able to work any hours and days as necessary to cover shift needs.
Prior telecommunications, dispatch or related experience is a plus.
CERTIFICATION
Will be required to complete the basic 40-hour telecommunicator course required by the State of Tennessee within 6 months.
A 4-hour CPR and a 32-hour EMD training and certification is required to be completed within 6 months of hire.
SALARY AND BENEFITS
Position is hourly, non-exempt for purposes of wage and hour. Starting hourly rate is $23.00 or $47,840.00 annualized. After a successful completion of a 6-month probation period, the pay rate will increase to $24.10 hourly or $50,128.00 annualized.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORK ENVIRONMENT
The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
Work is performed in an office environment using radio, telephones, and computer terminals.
Hearing is required to receive detailed information through oral communications and/or make fine distinctions in sound.
You must have normal ability to understand speech in noisy areas, understand whispered speech, and be able to localize sounds.
All candidates shall be tested for sharpness of hearing, to establish a record of hearing ability at the time of recruitment and to provide a valid basis for disqualification of such candidates as are found to have obvious hearing defects which would interfere with ordinary dispatch duty, such as inability to clearly perceive sounds within the normal voice range, or such sounds as are transmitted by police sirens, police radios, or voice commands, within normal decibel limits.
This is a safety and security sensitive role.
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit, use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls, and talk or hear. The employee is frequently required to reach with hands and arms.
Must be able to operate equipment such as phones, computers, keyboards, and other related equipment necessary to performing the duties of a dispatcher.
The applicant must pass physical and psychological tests conducted by qualified professionals.
Conditions present a high stress environment.
May be required to extend work schedule during emergency situations.
