GENERAL DEFINITION OF WORK
This position will split their time, seasonally, between Mowing and Grounds Maintenance and in colder weather and when needed, will work in General Maintenance assisting Maintenance Workers with the maintenance and repair of municipal buildings, structures, and street signs throughout the City.
Constructs and repairs structural woodwork and equipment in city buildings.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
Mowing, weed eating, litter pick up and related tasks for all City property.
General carpentry work including sheet rock, mudding, framing, installing fixtures, etc. Cleaning, painting, and related tasks for general maintenance of all city structures.
Installing street signs and other related signs on city routes and property.
Repairs, and installs counters, cabinets, benches, partitions, floors, doors, building framework, and trim.
Installs glass in windows, doors, and partitions.
Replaces damaged ceiling tile, floor tile, and wall coverings.
Installs items such as window shades, Venetian blinds, and curtain rods, wall fans, and door locks. Handles questions, concerns, and complaints from the public with tact and diplomacy.
Other duties as assigned.

Assists other departments as directed by the Maintenance Supervisor.
LANGUAGE SKILLS
Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS
Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
•Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.
•Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
•Ability to use necessary tools and equipment.

•Knowledge of the materials and equipment used in general maintenance and construction work.

DRIVER’S LICENSE
Valid Tennessee Driver's License with clear driving record.
EDUCATION
High School Diploma or GED required.
EXPERIENCE
Minimum one year of experience in facilities maintenance and repairs, carpentry, painting or related experience is a plus.
Experience with Grounds Maintenance, mowing and landscaping is preferred.

Responsible for proper operation of departmental pick-up truck and power tools. Work involves continuous handling of equipment and materials involved in general maintenance. Incumbents are exposed to dangerous equipment such as saws and to heat, cold rain, noise, dirt, dust, and other adverse conditions. The noise level in the work environment is usually loud.

Part time position, schedule is Monday, Wednesday, Friday 7:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m. Schedule may vary as needed, will not exceed 28 hours per week.
