What are the responsibilities and job description for the Payroll Supervisor position at City of Lee's Summit?
The Payroll Supervisor is responsible for overseeing payroll processing to assure employees are compensated in alignment with City policies, collective bargaining agreements and applicable laws. Serves as the backup to the Payroll Specialist. Reviews and monitors the accuracy of payroll documents and reports while maintaining confidentiality. As a representative of management, supports the mission, vision, strategic plan, goals and decisions of the department and the CityBachelor’s degree in accounting, business, finance or related field required. *
Minimum of five years’ experience in payroll and two years’ experience in accounting required.
Certified Payroll Professional designation required or acquired within first 12 months of employment.
Proficient use of Microsoft Office applications required.
Experience integrating with relevant payroll software preferred.

Solid knowledge of Wage and Hour laws (FLSA) and general personnel payroll policies and practices
Extensive knowledge of payroll taxes, garnishments, W-2's and general accounting practices
Knowledge of payroll accounts and reconciliation processes
Knowledge of accounting fundamentals
Ability to maintain and handle confidential information
Ability to effectively and efficiently address and solve payroll problems
Ability to guide, train, direct and motivate employees
Ability to organize and supervise the activities of others
Ability to communicate effectively, verbally and in writing
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees, other departments and with suppliers or the public, as needed.
