The purpose of the class is to provide professional, customer-oriented library services, supervise library staff, and oversee library functions. The class is responsible for supervision, planning, and managing library functions and outreach. The class works within broad policy and organizational guidelines, independently plans and implements projects; reports progress of major activities through periodic conferences and meetings.
Responsibilities :
- Supervises staff, including training, assigning and evaluating work.
- Functions as librarian in charge in the evening.
- Staffs service points to assist patrons in circulation, information, and reference activities, including readers’ advisory.
- Performs trouble-shooting tasks on computers, and assists patrons with public computer and equipment use.
- Plans, promotes, and provides adult programming, including genealogy, adult literacy, technology training, and other programs based on personal interests and community needs.
- Makes presentations to public and private groups and agencies, updates event calendars and the library website, and creates other publicity to promote awareness of library facilities and activities.
- Performs collection development tasks, including selecting print, nonprint, and digital materials to meet user needs, recommending materials for purchase while observing budgetary constraints, and discarding outdated materials.
- Assists patrons and staff with current technologies, such as mobile devices and social media.
- Functions as a US passport agent.
- Performs tasks related to digitizing and preserving material in the library’s special collections.
- Maintains necessary statistics and analyzes reports to assist in collection and program development.
- Attends staff meetings to exchange information; attends in-service training and technical or professional classes, seminars, or conferences to improve technical or professional skills.
- Performs routine office tasks, such as typing, filing, faxing, phoning, and copying.
Minimum Requirements :
Requires Master’s degree in Library Science, or current enrollment in Master’s in Library Science program from an ALA accredited program.
Requires two years or more experience in a public library with service desk responsibilities.
Requires strong computer and internet skills, experience with Microsoft Office applications (i.e. : Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel, and Microsoft PowerPoint), practical experience with social media, and practical experience with mobile devices and their applications. Requires excellent oral and written communication skills.
LICENSE / CERTIFICATES :
Must possess a valid Florida driver’s license and satisfactory driving record as a condition of initial and continued employment. Must be able to work weekends and evenings.
