Nature of Work
Apprentice - $17.38 per hour
The purpose of the class is to perform routine manual work in the Wastewater Collections division. This class is responsible for service work such as digging trenches, cleaning ditches; assists with installation of fixtures such as pipes, valves, fittings, and manholes; landscape, road, sidewalk, driveway restoration and other outdoor work. Completes logs or routine records. The class works according to set procedures under direct supervision. Weekend, holiday and after-hours work may be required, as well as after-hours response and emergencies.
Tech “C” - $19.73 per hour
The purpose of the class is to operate mobile equipment and perform skilled work in support of the Wastewater Collections division. This class is responsible for service work such as digging trenches, cleaning ditches; assists with installation of fixtures such as pipes, valves, fittings, and manholes; landscape, road, sidewalk, driveway restoration and other outdoor work, completing logs or routine records, operating light to medium mobile equipment, minor equipment maintenance, assisting and supporting City facility and area maintenance, and minor administrative tasks. The class works according to written and verbal procedures, but decides how and when to do things under general supervision. Weekend, holiday and after-hours work may be required, as well as after-hours response and emergencies.
Minimum Requirements
Apprentice
Requires a high school diploma or GED. Requires a valid State of Florida driver license and satisfactory driving record as a condition of initial and continued employment. Must obtain the following certifications within 18 months of hire (City will provide training): TTC approved certification, Confined Space Entry, and Class C Wastewater Collections Certification. Must obtain a Class B CDL permit w/tanker within 6 months of hire and license with no restrictions within one year of employment. This position requires employees to reside within a 20-mile radius of the city limits of Leesburg due to on call rotation requirement.
The level below requires a high school diploma, GED, and formal training, special courses, or self-educated equivalent to satisfying completion of one year of college educated or specialized advanced training in the Stormwater field. Must live within a 20-mile radius of the city limits of Leesburg due to on-call rotation requirement. May mentor and assist in training of less experienced operations staff. Maintain compliance using experience and best management practices. Minimum requirements are as follows:
Tech “C”
Requires 2,080 hours of experience in Wastewater Collections. Requires a Class “C” Wastewater Collections Certificate. Requires a valid State of Florida driver license and satisfactory driving record as a condition of initial and continued employment. Must obtain a Class B CDL permit with tanker endorsement within 6 months of hire and Class B CDL with no restrictions within one year of employment.
