DEFINITION
Assists with recreational programs and facility operations.
SUPERVISION RECEIVED AND EXERCISED
Receives general supervision from the Recreation Manager and may take direction from other Recreation staff as assigned.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTION STATEMENTS-Essential responsibilities and duties may include, but are not limited to, the following:
- Assist in overseeing comprehensive recreation activities.
- Provide clerical assistance in the Recreation office.
- Provide assistance to customers at the front desk; respond to inquiries, requests, and complaints concerning City and recreation programs; accept payments for recreation programs, classes, and rentals; balance cash and create daily deposits.
- Develop and maintain contact with individuals, schools, and organizations that serve youth for networking, referrals and joint program planning.
- Maintain up to date records on program expenditures.
- Prepare, type, word process and proofread a variety of documents, including general correspondence, forms, agendas, reports, memoranda, resolutions, purchasing records, staff logs, time sheets, and monthly statistics from rough draft or verbal instruction.
- Create, design, and proofread a variety of advertising materials for programs, activities, and events.
- Prepare, maintain, and verify a variety of files and records; develop and monitor various logs, accounts, and files for current and accurate information.
- Collect and record registration fees and maintain accurate balances; post and receive registration for recreation programs.
- Assist in maintaining facility schedules; accept payments and organize staffing and maintenance for facility rentals.
- Perform and/or oversee the set-up and breakdown of equipment for activities; organize volunteers to assist with programs.
- Set up supplies and equipment for all programs and classes at assigned facility; clean up facility as necessary following each activity.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Knowledge of:
Practices, procedures, activities, and programs as they relate to youth/child camping. Principles and practices of first aid and CPR, and proper English usage, vocabulary, spelling, punctuation and grammar.
Ability to:
Thoroughly carry out oral and written instructions. Prevent dangerous situations; recognizing the signs of emergencies and taking appropriate action. Establish and maintain effective working relationships with those contacted in the course of work, including City and other government officials, community groups, and the general public; and apply safe work practices.
Experience Guidelines
Any combination of experience and training that would likely provide the required knowledge and abilities is qualifying. A typical way to obtain the knowledge and abilities would be:
Experience:
Six (6) months of frequent public contact experience.
Training:
A high school diploma or equivalent.
License or Certificate
Possession of a valid, appropriate California Driver’s License.
Possession of, or ability to obtain, a First Aid and CPR certificate.
WORKING CONDITIONS
Environmental Conditions:
Inside and outside environment and is subject to exposure to direct sunlight, heat, and inclement weather conditions and high levels of noise.
Physical Conditions:
Essential functions require maintaining physical condition necessary for walking, standing, stooping, reaching, bending, climbing, lifting and pulling. Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs. Must be able to see and hear in normal range, with or without correction.
