The City of Lenexa’s Parks and Recreation Department is seeking a dedicated and enthusiastic Camp Director to manage our licensed day camp for the Summer of 2025.
Position Summary
The Camp Director develops, oversees, and facilitates specialty camps, school-out camps, licensed summer camps, and future camp programs. This role requires strong leadership, quick decision-making, and excellent communication skills to ensure a fun, engaging, and safe camp experience for all participants.
Schedule
Lenexa summer camps run from the end of May to the beginning of August. Camp Directors are expected to work a 40-hour work week between the hours of 7 : 30 am - 5 : 30 pm Monday - Friday.
Key Responsibilities
- Hire, train, schedule, and supervise up to 25 staff members.
- Plan, organize, and lead a variety of camp activities.
- Communicate effectively with parents, participants, and staff to ensure a positive camp experience.
- Maintain a safe and welcoming environment following city and KDHE operational guidelines.
- Oversee program schedules, group rotations, and activity planning.
- Enforce discipline and behavior policies while fostering a positive atmosphere.
- Administer medication and EpiPens as needed (training provided).
- Maintain and inspect equipment and program areas for safety and cleanliness.
- Drive a 15-passenger van to transport campers as needed.
- Manage supply needs to ensure effective program execution.
- Document incidents, disturbances, and camp-related situations.
- Complete annual professional development training related to youth programming.
- Assist with various programs and events beyond camps as needed.
Qualifications
Must be 21 years or older.
Certified Parks and Recreation Professional (CPRP) certification.
Physical Demands & Work Environment : This role is conducted both indoors and outdoors in varying conditions. Must be able to lift and move supplies and materials related to camp activities. Requires standing for long periods during events and programs. Visual acuity is needed to review materials and ensure accuracy in program execution.
The rate of pay is $20.20 to $22.08 per hour depending on experience.
Offers of employment are contingent upon passing a pre-employment drug screen and a comprehensive fingerprint-based background check, as required by the state of Kansas. An additional standard background check is required for applicants aged 18 or older.
