What are the responsibilities and job description for the Customer Service & Accounts Receivable Clerk Intern position at City of Lewiston?
This internship position is Monday through Friday, 9:00 am to 5:00 pm with a 30 minute lunch break. Beginning and end dates are flexible depending on the successful candidate's availability. The position is open until filled and applications will be reviewed as they are received.
Position Summary:
Under the direction of the Financial Service Manager, perform a variety of responsible accounts receivable, and customer service duties. Courteously and professionally responds to customer inquiries via telephone, email, and in-person interactions. Processes payments and provide information to customers about their utility accounts, City and services. Works in a team environment under supervision and within established guidelines and procedures.
Essential Duties:
Courteously and professionally greets and responds to incoming phone calls through the central telephone system and directs callers to appropriate personnel; Answers questions relating to billing questions, utility fees, and city services; Communicate and listens to customers effectively.
Prepares interoffice and outgoing mail; performs a variety of clerical, auditing, and support tasks.
Starts up, closes out, and balances the cashiering system; receives and processes utility and monetary payments; prepares and mails new owner updates.
Keeps immediate supervisor accurately informed concerning work progress.
Back up support to other team member’s job functions and performs other duties as assigned. Nothing in this job description restricts management's right to assign or reassign duties and responsibilities to this position at any time.Minimum Qualifications:
Ability to work in a team environment; enrolled in high school or college; good communication and listening skills; willingness to learn customer service practices, professional office etiquette, handling phone calls, and processing payments; adaptable to changing tasks and priorities; able to follow instructions and learn; maintain confidentiality; able to work without personal cell phone use during work hours, except during designated break periods; reliable and punctual. Must successfully pass City of Lewiston background check process, which includes reference checks, credit and criminal history check, and driving record check.Working Conditions:
Office environment is subject to considerable distractions and noise from frequent interruptions and office activities; extensive interaction with the public, including individuals that may be rude or discourteous. Physical activities include sitting and operating a computer, calculator or other office equipment for extended or intermittent periods of time, reaching overhead, above the shoulders and horizontally, standing at the counter to assist customers, bending at the waist, moderate lifting up to 25 pounds, and hearing and speaking to exchange information. Work in this position also includes close vision. Employees will sit, stand, reach and grasp.
