What are the responsibilities and job description for the Recreation Coordinator - Youth and Community Programs position at City of Lewiston?
Under the direction of the Parks and Recreation Director the Recreation Coordinator is responsible for assisting in coordinating and implementing recreation programs, events and activities including supervising part-time staff. The principal duties of the position are performed in public buildings and in outdoor environments in adverse weather conditions. The Recreation Coordinator may assist in the performance of duties of other employees in the department as assigned by the Parks and Recreation Director.
Plans, organizes, develops, schedules and evaluates recreation programs.
Trains, supervises, schedules and evaluates part-time, contracted, and seasonal personnel. Assists with supervision of part-time staff on week nights, weekends, and holidays.
Performs facility set up and clean up as needed.
Provides excellent customer service to program participants and the general public.
Maintain inventory of supplies and equipment; distribute supplies and equipment; assist with ordering supplies and equipment for recreation and athletic programs.
Assists with public relation duties, marketing, and advertising and distributing media materials to the community.
Assists with and maintains City of Lewiston Parks and Recreation website and social media for the department.
Provide clerical support, program registration, answer telephones, and maintain correspondence with other divisions or agencies; may respond to public inquiries about the Lewiston Community Center and Recreation programs.
Plans, organizes, develops, and schedules the Lewiston Community Center.
Program and manage assigned classes, schedules, and implementation of activities, programs, and coordinates with other recreation programs for facility usage.
May open and close the operations of recreation facilities.
May perform emergency custodial maintenance work. Set up tables, sports equipment, chairs, and bleachers for classes and programs.
Communicates and coordinates regularly with others appropriately to maximize the effectiveness and efficiency of departmental operations and activities.
Interprets and applies city, department or office rules, policies and regulations in accordance with prescribed procedures and guidelines.
May provide security for the building and grounds. In addition, makes safety checks on the facility and eliminate hazards to ensure complete safety of the patrons.
Acts as staff liaison to the city's Youth Commission
Perform related duties as required.Graduation from college with a bachelor's degree in recreation administration, physical education, social work, psychology or closely related field, and six (6) months experience in public recreation or any equivalent combination of education or experience is preferred. Must hold or have the ability to obtain a current valid State Driver's License upon hire. Ability to obtain certification in First Aid and CPR within the first year of employment. Must be able to obtain a Certified Parks and Recreation Professional certification within 1 year of employment.
Knowledge of Microsoft Office products, desktop publishing, spreadsheets, and other recreation related computer software.
Ability to work under stressful situations; ability to stay calm; have excellent problem solving skills.
Ability to prepare and maintain records and prepare reports.
Ability to work evenings, night shifts, split shifts, weekends, and some holidays.
Knowledge of sport and recreation activities; ability to organize and direct fitness and/or recreation programs.
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with co-workers, public, news media and other departments and agencies; ability to follow written and oral instructions; ability to communicate effectively, verbally and in writing.
Ability to learn methods, materials, tools and standard practices regarding recreation field maintenance.
Ability to learn registration processes and procedures.
Communicate effectively with the public and other employees both orally and in writing.
Operate a personal computer using program applications appropriate to assigned duties.
