What are the responsibilities and job description for the Summer Library Associate position at City of Lewiston?
Under the direction of the Youth Services Librarian, Summer Library Associates will work a flexible full time temporary schedule to assist with children’s, teen and adult reading programs at the library and off site.Acting as a positive role model for children, the Summer Library Associates coordinate and provide literacy and STEAM activities both at the library and at summer outreach sites to support the summer reading program. Responsibilities of a Summer Library Associate may include overseeing teen volunteers, reading aloud to children, hosting book clubs, distributing books as well as collecting and recording data for the summer reading program. Managing large groups of children, giving clear instructions and speaking in front of groups are often required. Employee will assist in other duties as assigned.MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Candidates must have excellent customer service skills, be able to maintain confidentiality, display strong interpersonal written and spoken communication skills, and general knowledge of databases, social media and software packages. Candidates must be 18 years of age and have a high school diploma or G.E.D. certificate and a valid driver’s license with a clear driving record. Experience or education in elementary education or library services are preferred. The ideal candidate is working towards a career in education and/or experienced in working with children.

Candidates must demonstrate strong interpersonal communication skills, the ability to follow directions, attention to detail, excellent customer service skills, data collection and recording skills, and the ability to give clear instructions.. WORKING CONDITIONS:
Work setting is formal, team oriented, having both routine and variable tasks. Work place and pressure are variable, but frequently high-paced and high pressure. Primary functions require the following: ability to work in an office and operate office equipment and technology; ability to sit and stand for extended periods of time; ability to hear and understand speech at normal levels; ability to bend, twist, sit, stoop, kneel, push, pull and crawl; ability to lift 35-40 lbs.; ability to carry 30 lbs.; ability to reach in all directions.
