Position Summary
Compensation:
The annual salary range for this position is $52,013.51-$55,642.36, which represents the hiring range for new employees based on factors such as education, experience, certifications, and licenses. The full salary range extends up to $71,064.97, providing opportunities for salary growth as employees gain experience, develop skills, and demonstrate strong performance over time.
Position Summary:
Organizes, assigns and monitors work activities of crew. Ensures that work is completed following established procedures; efficiently utilizing time, material and manpower.
Essential Functions
- Provide functional oversight of park operations crew for the purpose of assuring the maintenance and appearance of City lands, and the proper care of their trees.
- Assigns, coordinates, and monitors progress of work assignments to crew members.
- Operates equipment and uses tools necessary to complete tasks in assigned area of responsibility.
- Performs six month and annual performance evaluations on crew members and handles disciplinary actions as required.
- Trains and assists crew members on a daily basis.
- Completes reports and paperwork as required. Checks in with Manager weekly on all assigned duties.
- Ensures that vehicles and equipment are operating properly; ensures safety practices are being followed.
- Assist with tree related contracts and vendor member agreements.
- Keep detailed records of all site visits.
- Performs all other related duties as assigned.
Position Qualifications
Education: High School Diploma or GED required.
Experience: 1 year to 3 years of experience in landscape maintenance or a related field;
Or any combination of related education, experience, certifications and licenses that will result in a candidate successfully performing the essential functions of the job is an acceptable substitute for the above specified education and experience requirements
REQUIRED SKILLS & ABILITIES
Knowledge of:
- Must possess and exhibit knowledge of proper landscape maintenance procedures and have the ability to teach these procedures to crew members.
- Must possess and exhibit skills necessary to operate assigned tools and equipment in a safe and proper manner and to teach these skills to crew members.
- Must possess and exhibit knowledge of proper tree/plant identification of North Texas species as well as pest management and soil management practices.
Ability to:
- Ability to accept responsibility and account for his/her actions.
- Ability to follow instructions, safety practices and standard operating procedures in performing assigned tasks.
- Ability to be punctual and attend work regularly.
- Ability to work effectively with people regardless of their age, gender, race, ethnicity, religion, or job type.
- Ability to communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing.
- Ability to take and follow verbal and written instructions.
Skills:
- Must possess computer skills to successfully navigate Google docs, e-mail, Microsoft Word and Excel, and the internet.
- Must possess skills necessary to safely operate diverse equipment, especially various field measuring, and sampling tools utilized by arborists.
- Bi-lingual skills preferred.
Other Requirements:
- Must submit to and pass a criminal background, pre-employment drug test, pre-placement medical examination and job placement assessment (JPA).
- Valid Class “C” Driver’s license with good driving record as defined by City policy.
- Certified Arborist as issued through the International Society of Arboriculture – Preferred.
Work Hours
Monday to Friday, 6am to 2:30pm. Scheduling adjustments may occur on a week by week basis based on athletic calendar.
