Position Summary
Compensation: The annual salary range for this position is $52,013.51-$55,642.36, which represents the hiring range for new employees based on factors such as education, experience, certifications, and licenses. The full salary range extends up to $71,064.97, providing opportunities for salary growth as employees gain experience, develop skills, and demonstrate strong performance over time.
Position Summary: Inspects paving, drainage, water, sewer, traffic signals, and other improvements at construction sites to ensure that work is performed in accordance with plans, specifications, and City codes.
Essential Functions
- Inspects paving, drainage, water, sewer, traffic signals, and other improvements at construction sites to ensure that work is performed in accordance with plans, specifications, and City codes.
- Maintains daily log of all activities at construction sites; monitors and records quality and quantity of materials used on City contracts; monitors all testing of water lines, sewer lines, concrete, asphalt, and compaction on job sites; files daily logs, test results, and compaction reports on all jobs; reports any changes in design, materials, or methods to appropriate engineering personnel.
- Communicates with contractors, property owners and engineers concerning construction; answers questions as necessary.
- Enforces proper traffic control at job sites as necessary.
- Subject to be on call 24 hours for emergencies and respond as necessary for area of assigned responsibility.
- Performs all other related duties as assigned.
Position Qualifications
Education
- High School Diploma or GED
- 1 year of experience in the inspection of water, sewer, traffic signals, drainage, and paving construction.
- Any combination of related education, experience, certifications and licenses that will result in a candidate successfully performing the essential functions of the job is an acceptable substitute for the above specified education and experience requirements.
REQUIRED SKILLS & ABILITIES
Knowledge of:
- Knowledge of basic principles of surveying, construction safety, City codes and specifications.
- Ability to accept responsibility and account for his/her actions.
- Ability to follow instructions, safety practices and standard operating procedures in performing assigned tasks.
- Ability to be punctual and attend work regularly
- Ability to work effectively with people regardless of their age, gender, race, ethnicity, religion, or job type.
- Ability to work effectively with contractors, engineers, City personnel, utility companies and the general public.
- Ability to perform work accurately and thoroughly.
- Ability to communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing.
- Skill in use of personal computer including Microsoft Office, e-mail and the internet.
- Skills in reading and interpreting construction plans and understanding construction methods and equipment.
Other Requirements
- Must submit and pass a pre-employment drug, pre-placement medical examination and the job placement assessment (JPA).

Must possess a valid State of Texas Drivers License Class “C” and good driving record as defined by City policy.
- An applicant who does not possess a Texas Driver's License or proper class, will be allowed ten (10) working days after a job offer is made to obtain proper licensing.
- Must obtain a class A CDL within 12 months of hire.
- Must obtain an “N” endorsement for tank vehicles within 90 days of acquisition of CDL-A.
- Must be available to work overtime, on-call, nights, weekends, and holidays as required.
Preferences
- Preference may be given to an applicant with certification as a Certified Public Works Inspector.
Work Hours
Monday-Thursday 6:30am to 5:00pm.
