The Civilian Crash Investigator performs duties related to the investigation of minor motor vehicle collisions, writing crash reports, controlling traffic flow, directing traffic, and providing crowd control at accident scenes. Crash Investigator can also perform various administrative support duties for the Police Department.
Minimum Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED equivalency
- Valid NC driver’s license and a good driving record.
- Department of Criminal Investigations (DCI) certification within six months
- Successfully complete NC Justice Academy Civilian Traffic Investigator Course within six months

Work Schedule
Generally Monday - Friday 7:30am - 4:30pm
Other hours may be required based on special circumstances (events, weather, etc.)
