Description
The City of Liberty is looking for 2 new employees to join our Utilities team as a Maintenance Worker in our sewer collection division. In this role, we will provide you with all the training you need in order to perform a variety of maintenance activities pertaining to Utilities operations and services. You’ll be responsible for a variety of tasks such as the construction, maintenance and repair of city sanitary sewer infrastructure and other maintenance activities pertaining to Utilities Maintenance Operations and services; and perform other related duties as assigned.

- On-call rotation every 4-5 weeks, with minimum call-out pay

Essential Functions
- Perform construction and maintenance activities in assigned Division.
- Participate in the repair and maintenance of sanitary sewer infrastructure. Repair deteriorated sewer mains, service lines, leaks, and making taps. Maintaining manholes and locating sewer lines.
- Pour concrete for construction projects; assist in the repair of curbs, streets, sidewalks and other related areas.
- Install street barricades and cones prior to the performance of utilities repair activities; direct and control traffic around work sites and streets.
- Operate a variety of equipment including backhoe, trucks, hydraulic pumps, tankers, loaders, TV equipment, snow removal equipment, vactor and a variety of hand tools.
- Break and repair concrete and asphalt surfaces; excavate and replace concrete, dig ditches, backfill trenches and holes.
- Maintain assigned vehicles, tools and equipment needed for maintenance and repair; make minor repairs; report major repairs to supervisor.
- Maintain records and logs of all work performed and supplies used.
- Proactively engage and interact with citizens to ensure their customer experience leaves a positive impact.
- Required participation in the Utilities Department On-Call Standby Rotation.
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities
- Must respond to requests and inquiries from customers/citizens in a professional, positive, friendly and helpful manner.
- Establish and maintain effective working relationships with other City employees.
- Work independently in the absence of supervision.
- Maintain physical condition appropriate to the performance of essential duties including operating and maintaining assigned equipment.
- Maintain mental capacity which permits satisfactory performance of essential functions including decision-making, communication, teamwork and positive customer/citizen interactions and experiences.
- Perform a variety of semi-skilled maintenance, construction and repair work in the area of work assigned.
- Understand and effectively use City’s Geographical Information System (GIS).
Experience/Training/License or Certification
- No experience required. Some experience performing water distribution infrastructure maintenance is desirable.
- Equivalent to a high school diploma/GED
- Possession of, or ability to obtain, valid Class “B” Commercial Driver’s License with air brake and tank endorsement (within 6-12 months of employment).
- Required Completion of City provided training and certifications for Temporary Traffic Control/Flagger, Trenching Shoring Competent Person, Permit Required Confined Space Entry (within 1 year of employment) as well a Department of Natural Resources Water Distribution System Operator DS-1 Certificate (within 2 years of employment).
