What are the responsibilities and job description for the Sports Complex Groundskeeper/Maintenance Worker position at City of Liberty?
We're looking for an Athletic Fields Groundskeeper at the premier Capitol Federal® Sports Complex in Liberty, MO. In this role, you will perform grounds maintenance and related service activities for our expansive facility which includes 15 softball/baseball fields, 6 regulation sized grass soccer fields, 8 stocked ponds, 2 miles of walking/jogging trails, playgrounds and concession stands. You will participate in grounds maintenance services including mowing, irrigation, turf management & preparation, construction & renovations. With approximately 200,000 visitors to the complex each year, this role is critical and a great opportunity for someone who enjoys working outdoors and would take pride in making the complex look it's best!

- Perform athletic field and grounds maintenance including mowing, aerifying, topdressing, seeding, sodding, trimming, field painting, irrigation and turf care, fertilizing; spray chemicals including insecticides, herbicides, soil conditioners and related chemicals; follow proper safety precautions; installation and care of trees and shrubs, proper pruning techniques and tree removal.
- Perform infield maintenance and repair work of baseball/softball fields including, watering infields, repairing bases, pitching mounds, batter’s boxes and transition areas of infield and outfield.
- Perform tilling, rolling and fertilizing soil; construct new planting areas and maintain high traffic wear areas on athletic fields.
- Perform maintenance of irrigation system including preventive maintenance, replacement of heads, broken pipes, winterization and summarization of irrigation system and monitor flow rates of fields.
- Operate or drive a variety of specialized equipment utilized in assigned projects including tractors, lawn mowers, power and hand tools such as chain saws, weed eaters, edgers and related equipment; assist in training others to use specialized equipment as necessary.
- Perform a variety of preventive maintenance and general maintenance repair work of equipment, buildings and facilities by performing a variety of equipment renovation, semi-skilled plumbing, carpentry, masonry, concrete work, roofing, painting and electrical work.
- Answer questions and provide information to the general public; respond to citizen inquires and complaints; maintain positive relations with the general public.
- Ability to apply herbicides, pesticides and other chemicals in a safe manner.
- Ability to operate a variety of landscaping tools and equipment including, loaders, top-dressers, aerifyers, verti-seeders tractors, mowers, trenchers and power tools such as blowers, weed eaters and chain saws.
- College degree in turf management, horticulture, parks and recreation, or a related field, preferred but not required.
- Experience in turf management, horticulture, parks and recreation, or a related field, preferred but not required.
- Ability to obtain state pesticide spray license.
- Possession of valid driver’s license.
