General Job Description
To teach English, create and Implement a flexible program and classroom environment favorable and conducive to student learning and personal and spiritual growth. Develops Lesson plans consistent with established COLCA Guidelines. Establish an effective, and positive rapport with students, COLCA staff, administrators, parents, and stakeholders.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Develop lesson plans and upload them to FACTS
- Establish a positive and class culture
- Enforce classroom rules and school policies
- Keep parents updated on their child’s progress
- Prepare students for standardized tests
- Recognize each student’s needs
- Grade classwork, homework, and tests
- Plans and Implements a program of instruction that adheres to City of Life's
Christian Core Moral and Spiritual Values.
- Strive to maximize the educational achievement, spiritual growth of each student.
- Utilize a variety/range of student learning modalities in each lesson; uses differentiated instruction within those lessons to teach students’ full potential.
- Assesses students strengths and weaknesses on a frequent basis, provides age appropriate activities to address student needs and generates, uploads, upholds progress reports, as required.
Provide a Classroom Environment Conducive to Student Learning:
- Creates a learning environment that is conducive to learning and appropriate to the maturity and special interests of students.
- Maintains a positive rapport with students; demonstrates patience and appropriate nurturing to assist with the students spiritual growth
- Ensures the classroom is clean,safe and includes student generated work on display as appropriate.
- Develops reasonable rules of classroom/playground behaviour in accordance with COLCA policy and procedures/guidelines, and maintains order in the classroom in a fair and consistent manner.
Instructional Planning
- Develop Lesson plans consistent with established biblical worldview guidelines
- Plans individual and/group learning activities designed to meet instructional objectives and students needs.
- Takes all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect supplies, equipment, materials and facilities needed to implement effectively the planned instructional program.
- Maintains confidentiality regarding students records
School/Community Relations:
- Communicates clearly, consistently, and positively with parents/guardians via all appropriate mediums.
- Strives to establish cooperative relations and cooperates with members of the administration, and other COLCA staff
Skills/Knowledge
- Demonstrates enthusiasm and commitment toward the position, and toward our mission statement as outlined in the COLCA Employee Handbook.
- Possess strong time management & organizational skills.
- Possess excellent interpersonal skills and communication skills.
- Ability to be at work consistently, be on time, to follow directions, and to solicit feedback to improve performance.
- Demonstrate some knowledge with Microsoft Office (Word,Excel,Powerpoint),
Student information System (SIS; FACTS) and email communications.
- Strives to implement best practices and a positive christ-like character.
Qualifications
- *A four year degree, preferably in education or equivalent experience
- One year of teaching preferred
- Bilingual preferred but not required
