The City of Lino Lakes (pop. 22,376) is a growing outer ring suburb only 20 minutes from St. Paul and Minneapolis. The city has direct access to numerous parks, trails, and other outdoor activities. POSITION DESCRIPTION
TITLE : POC Firefighter
DEPARTMENT : Public Safety
DIVISION : Fire Services
SUPERVISOR : Fire Chief
STATUS : Part Time / Paid On-Call
PRIMARY OBJECTIVES
To protect life and property through fire suppression, medical aid, public education, inspections, and other fire prevention duties. Serves under the direction of the Fire Chief, District Chief, and other public safety supervisors.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
- Responds to emergency and non-emergency incidents as a firefighter and emergency medical responder.
- Performs firefighting activities, including driving fire apparatus, operating pumps and related equipment, laying hose, and other related tasks.
- Responds to calls for emergency medical services, and renders first aid.
- Maintains fire equipment and apparatus in accordance with department standards.
- Completes reports, forms, and data entry into fire record management system and other related databases.
- Works with local, state, and federal agencies.
- Assists in conducting fire investigations as needed.
- Assists with fire prevention and safety education efforts.
- Participates in public safety training and meetings.
- Performs other job related duties as apparent or assigned.

WORK ENVIRONMENT
Work is performed in an office, garage, and emergency firefighting environment at various scenes / locations. Travel is required. Must work closely with others.
Will work in extreme cold temperatures or high temperatures of which either may cause marked bodily discomfort or reactions. Will encounter wet conditions and high humidity. Will be required to perform rescue and / or lifesaving duties. May perform duties in and around stable or moving water environments (where water depth may be greater that the height of the firefighter). May have to perform emergency response functions in confined spaces. May work in high, precarious places.
This position works in environments that can be immediately dangerous to life and health.
Environment may include smoke or other toxic conditions and exposed to a variety of physical hazards including unsound structures, moving mechanical equipment, electrical equipment, and working in elevated areas. Frequently encounters noise and / or vibration exceeding 80 decibels (constant or intermittent) to cause marked distraction or possible hearing loss. Risk of electrical shock. Exposure to radiant energy, fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, radioactive materials, biological agents, and explosives.
