Description:
Under general supervision, operates directional boring machine and excavation equipment for a variety of activities including excavation, trenching, and boring of new and future single and 3-phase power lines.
Qualifications:
High School GED or equivalent AND experience equivalent to three (3) years full-time construction and maintenance work. Must possess or be able to obtain a valid Utah Commercial Driver's License (CDL). Must be capable of lifting in excess of 75 pounds without adverse consequences. Must be able to climb in and out of vehicles repeatedly.
Responsibilities:
Operates boring machine and backhoe for a variety of construction and maintenance activities; provide services such as cleanup and maintenance of machinery; performs assigned work under hazardous conditions, moving traffic, and adverse weather conditions. Repairing and maintaining mechanical equipment. Servicing, repairing, adjusting, and testing machines, devices, moving parts, and equipment. Inspecting equipment, structures, and/or materials to identify the cause of errors or other problems or defects. Maintains records, daily reports, written reports of work activities; participates in flagging, barricading and traffic control activities. Records equipment maintenance activities; complies with OSHA standards, regulations and policies. Is able to communicate effectively with supervisors and peers. Develops constructive and cooperative working relationships with others. Getting members of a group to work together to accomplish tasks.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Knowledge of correct operation of bore machine, boring depths, and product installation in various sizes (2" - 6") SCR11 and other.
Perform routine maintenance and upgrade work on machines and equipment, such as replacing parts, building up drill bits, and lubricating machinery.
Operate controls to stabilize machines and to position and align bores.
Regulate rotary speed and pressure according to the type of rock or soil condition being bored.
Working knowledge of high voltage power lines, gas lines, communication lines, fiber optic lines and equipment.
Monitor boring operations, checking gauges and listening to equipment to assess boring conditions and to determine the need to adjust bore angle and/or equipment.
Knowledge of equipment capabilities, limitations and safe operating characteristics.
Knowledge of traffic laws, ordinances and regulations relating to the operation of assigned equipment.
Knowledge of OSHA safety standards.
Knowledge of traffic control and work zone standards.
Skill in the efficient and safe operation of assigned equipment.
Skill in performing skilled and semi-skilled construction and maintenance tasks.
Skill in general motorized and non-motorized equipment maintenance.
Skill in reading maps, drawings and construction plans.
