PT GEN (Manual) - Custodian

The Parks & Recreation Department continuously seeks candidates for the position of Custodian.  However, there may not be any current openings. 
 
Under general supervision, performs a variety of janitorial duties at the Lompoc Aquatic Center, keeping the building spaces clean and orderly. 

Incumbents will work hours that include nights, weekends, and holidays.

The following duties are typical of this classification. Incumbents may not perform all of the duties and/or may be required to perform additional or different duties from those set forth below to address business needs and changing business practices.
 
Clean changing rooms, shower rooms, restrooms, lobby, and other public areas in the Aquatic Center; replenish supplies in changing rooms and restrooms; sweep, mop, scrub, and buff floors; vacuum, shampoo, and clean carpets; clean, disinfect, and polish water fountains, sinks and other fixtures and equipment; wash walls, fixtures, equipment and windows; empty and clean waste receptacles and dispose of trash; report the need for maintenance work to superiors; report conditions which may indicate vandalism, illegal entry or fire hazards; and turn out lights and secure the building by locking doors and windows.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:  Any combination of training, education, and experience which would provide the required knowledge, skills, and abilities: None Required.

Ability to: Read and write legibly at the level required for successful job performance; understand and carry out oral and written instructions; establish and maintain effective relationships with those contacted in the course of work; keep supervisor informed of trends, daily operations, and resource control.

Physical: Strength category: Medium Work - exert force of 20-50 pounds occasionally, 10-25 pounds frequently, or up to 10 pounds constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or move objects.  Constant handling, gripping, grasping.  Frequent walking, pushing, pulling.  Occasional standing, bending, stooping, kneeling, reaching at, above and below shoulder level, twisting at the waist extension of the neck upward, downward and side to side. On rare occasion, sitting, crouching, crawling, climbing stairs and ladders, fingering, typing.  Vision: Visual acuity which could be corrected sufficiently to perform the essential functions of the position; average depth perception needed.  Hearing: Effectively hear/comprehend oral instructions and communication.
 
Mental/Psychological: Work cooperatively and interact appropriately with those contacted in the course of work, including the general public; read simple material; utilize simple math skills; utilize simple writing skills; understand, remember and carry out simple job instructions; respond quickly to changing priorities; communicate effectively orally; work under pressure; work within deadlines.
 
ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS:
Constantly works indoors; rarely works outdoors.  Occasional exposure to dust, fumes, gases, odors, solvents, grease or oil, slippery or uneven walking surfaces.  Constantly works alone; occasionally works with others.   On rare occasion is exposed to extreme temperatures, electrical energy, chemicals, and/or excessive noises.
