The Library Page position is primarily responsible for the movement and appropriate placement of library materials. This is an entry-level position and duties are performed under the supervision of the Page supervisor. Most training is provided on-the-job. The Library Page could work at either the Lompoc or Vandenberg Village Library.
EXAMINATION PROCESS: Based upon screening of the City application, résumé, and response to supplemental question, applicants whose qualifications best meet the requirements of the position will be invited to the examination process. This process may include, but is not limited to: oral interview process. Those candidates who pass the examination process are placed on an eligibility list from which the final selection will be made.
SELECTION PROCESS: Appointment is subject to successful completion of pre-employment medical exam provided at City expense. As authorized by City policy, applicants being considered for hire in this position are subject to fingerprinting for purposes of investigating criminal history background, as part of the employment screening process.

The following duties are typical of this classification. Incumbents may not perform all of the duties and/or may be required to perform specific additional or different duties from those set forth below to address business needs and changing business practices.
Typical duties include bringing the books and other library materials from the outside book drop into the library; pushing shelving carts and placing books onto the library shelves in correct order; straightening shelves; checking shelves to be sure material is in the correct location; picking up books and materials from around library and returning to their correct locations; finding books on the shelf from a list of materials; identifying damaged books or books from other libraries for appropriate action; minor cleaning including picking up trash and dusting shelves; closing windows, checking doors and other duties required to secure the library for the evening; and performs related work as required.
Specific duties may be required in different departments. These may include use of the copy machine, labeling shelves or materials, cutting out materials for children's programs, and other work assigned by the supervisor.

Include any combination of training, education and experience which demonstrates an ability to perform the duties of the position. The typical qualifying entrance background is:
KNOWLEDGE OF: English language, 9th grade reading level required; and basic math.
ABILITY TO: Learn library shelving rules; work dependably with occasional supervision; maintain high degree of accuracy; complete tasks in a timely fashion; understand and carry out oral and written instructions; establish and maintain effective working relationships; and bend, reach with hands and arms, push, pull, kneel, lift weights of up to 25 lbs on a regular basis, stand for up to 4 hours.
