Position Summary
The Senior Human Resource Generalist plays a major role in creating and maintaining a positive employee experience within the HR Department. This role will provide senior level expertise in the following areas : compensation, benefits administration, employment law, health and safety, employee engagement, performance management, employee development, training and talent acquisition. This role serves as a key resource to employees and managers on various HR related topics and may, at times, facilitate effective communication and problem-solving discussions with staff. The Senior HR Generalist will be instrumental in partnering with the Senior HR Manager to develop HR policies and programs that align with the City's Six Big Ideas, streamline processes and enhance workforce performance.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Provides senior level support in functional areas of Human Resources including but not limited to recruitment, benefit administration, performance management, job evaluation, compensation, compliance requirements, workers compensation, training and special projects as assigned
- Provides full cycle recruiting support to hiring managers. Develops and provides detailed quarterly metrics on key employment trends (hiring, attrition, etc.), aligning external market trends with current processes and goals. Support Onboarding and New Employee Orientation of new employees as needed.
- Responsible for attending and representing the City at recruitment events and job fairs. Seeks and develops relationships with potential pipeline generators.
- Assist the Senior HR Manager identifying and developing employee training to support City needs.
- Provides support on a wide range of human resource services to teams and departments within the City in support of their objectives, strategic goals, and human resource initiatives.
- Lead the coordination of the annual open enrollment process and the City's Annual Benefits Fair. Develop and conducts benefit orientations for new hires. Act as a liaison between employees and the City's benefits providers, if necessary, to provide consultation and resolve challenges.
- Acquire and maintain a thorough knowledge of all City offered benefits and eligibility requirements. Oversee billing reconciliation of all benefits. Initiate research and closely works with payroll to resolve billing discrepancies. Partner with payroll to ensure complete resolve of billing and / or employee deduction errors.
- Works with the Senior HR Manager as needed on strategic HR initiatives that may include Performance Management, Work Force Planning, Employee Learning and Development, Diversity, Compliance, Recruitment, Exit and / or Compensation-related action items.
- Meet with employees to initiate and process all leave of absences paperwork when needed.
- Identifies retention issues during and after the employment process and assists with employee retention planning. Conducts exit interviews and provides recommendation on retention strategies.
- Assist Senior HR Manager with the coordination and implementation of culture and engagement initiatives. Reviews survey data to understand trends.
- Recommends new approaches, policies, and procedures to continually improve efficiencies of employment practices.
- Work across teams to gather feedback on needed improvements through formal and informal processes to create a strong inclusive culture. Building trusted relationships with staff.
- Performs other related duties as assigned by supervisor.
