DESCRIPTION

The City of Long Beach, Department of Health and Human Services has an immediate opening for an unclassified, at-will Community Program Technician II to serve as the Re-entry Community Liaison in the Collective Impact Bureau. Reporting to the Human Dignity Manager, the Community Program Technician will work with the City's Re-entry Service Network Coordinator and the Reentry Services Specialist. The Re-entry Community Program Technician will support the Reentry team with screening individuals impacted by the justice system, formerly arrested or incarcerated, transitioning from incarceration or other challenging situations back into their communities. This position will provide clerical, technical and / or paraprofessional support for the delivery of grant-funded programs, projects, and services. In addition to the Reentry program this position will support front desk duties at the Ron Arias Health Equity Center. The City of Long Beach Department of Health and Human Services will enhance its Long Beach Reentry Project by coordinating core (mental health, substance use treatment, diversion) and supportive services (case management, housing, employment, education, legal, tattoo removal, gender-specific, youth-specific) in collaboration with various non-governmental organizations for justice-involved individuals. LBDHHS will prioritize those most impacted by the criminal justice system and provide culturally appropriate, trauma-informed services.

This position is housed at the Ron Arias Health Equity Center (RAHEC) located at 6335 Myrtle Avenue Long Beach, CA 90805.

EXAMPLES OF DUTIES

  • Manages the RAHEC front desk, interfacing with visitors and clients, screening and routing calls, opening and closing procedures for the building including arming / disarming.

Supports community with inquiries, connection to resources and disseminating program information.

Performs initial screening process to determine program eligibility.

Assists with bookkeeping duties, and creating documents for grant-funded programs, projects and / or services.

Assist with the planning and coordination of forums such as securing meeting space, purchasing refreshments, capturing meeting notes, and more.

Collects monthly reports, prepares data entry related to reentry and other grant-funded programs.

Assist with room reservations, scheduling meetings, conferences and workshops.

Prepares, maintains and disseminates spreadsheets, client files and / or program reports.

Develops and / or maintains informational databases for grant programs.

Assists in the preparation of federal, state and local grant reports.

Maintains client and program files and reports for grant programs.

Develops and conducts community resource referral / reference services for grant related programs, projects, and / or services.

Performs other grant-related duties as required.

REQUIREMENTS TO FILE

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS :

  • High School diploma or equivalent.
  • Two (2) years of full-time professional experience in providing technical support for the delivery of programs, activities, and services.
  • College education in Public Health, Public or Business Administration, Social Work, or closely related field may be substituted for the required experience on a year-for-year basis. ( proof of education required for substitution to be applied)

  • Willingness and ability to work overtime as needed, including occasional evenings and weekends.
  • A valid motor vehicle operator's license may be required for some positions.
  • Some positions may require working overtime, weekends, and evenings.

  • Professional experience supporting individuals who have been incarcerated or involved in the justice system.
  • Experience with grant data collection.
  • Knowledge of re-entry service providers and service provider networks in Long Beach.
  • Bilingual proficiency in English & Spanish.
  • Excellent interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills.
  • Experience with research and familiarity with re-entry data sources.
  • Ability to prepare clear and well written documents and presentation materials.
  • Ability to handle sensitive information and maintain confidentiality.
  • Knowledge of racial equity and trauma informed approaches.
