Definition:
Under the direction of the Public Works and Natural Resources Construction Inspection Supervisor performs office and field work for utility, water distribution, wastewater collection, street and transportation and other public works, natural resources and municipal projects. Ensure compliance with applicable laws, ordinances, standards, plans, and specifications. Perform various additional duties as described herein.
Principal Duties:
· Inspect field work for the Public Works and Natural Resources department, including utility, water distribution, wastewater collection, street and transportation, bridge/structural and other public works, natural resources and municipal projects.
· Participate in and support actions to create a work culture in the Division and Work Group that is focused on excellence, accountability for results, customer service, teamwork, and support of the Department and City.
· Assume a supporting role in the inspection work group within the Engineering Services Division, including assisting in planning strategies based on existing and future needs of the City’s water, wastewater, storm drainage and street and transportation systems; coordinating activities with other work groups, divisions, departments, outside agencies, and the general public.
· Participate in training and mentoring fellow employees toward improved performance.
· Assist in maintenance and development of City standards, codes and specifications, and make recommendations on their implementation.
· Make recommendations related to the planning, design and implementation of the City’s capital program for transportation, utility, and public works projects.
· Understand, interpret, and ensure compliance with all applicable City, Regional, State and Federal rules, ordinances, regulations and guidelines.
· Perform inspections on Public Works and Natural Resource’s interests in relation to Building Inspection.
· Assist in planning, analyzing and making recommendations for capital improvement projects.
· Investigate and initiate the use of new materials, procedures, and equipment related to field inspections.
· Perform reviews of both Capital Projects and Land Development projects involving public works and utility improvements.
· Coordinate closely with internal departments and divisions regarding assigned construction work.
· Work with other staff to perform annual work plan job assignments.
· Assume responsibility for project quality, scheduling, and quantities.
· Ensure that all safety regulations and City safety policies are understood and adhered to by fellow staff members.

· Build alliances, foster effective teamwork and build constructive relationships within and between individuals and other work groups. Participate in activities with other City departments, divisions, outside agencies, the public and contractors.

· Resolve difficult customer issues. Evaluate operations and customer services and make appropriate adjustments.
· Represent the City in interdepartmental, inter-agency, community, and professional meetings and working committees as required.
· Prepare, review and submit a variety of reports, correspondence, memoranda, and other communications.
Working Environment:
Work is primarily performed outdoors in the field. Work involves exposure to sun, noise, dust, fumes, smoke, gases, moving vehicles, machinery, and all types of weather conditions. There may be occasional exposure to solvents, grease, oils, pesticides, herbicides, and water. Work will involve walking or standing, frequently on slippery or uneven surfaces, for up to 6 hours per day. Work requires pulling, pushing, reaching, use of fingers and hands, climbing, crawling, bending, twisting, kneeling, and squatting. Must have correctable near and far vision, ability to distinguish colors, hear, speak, and write. Work requires ability to read and understand documents, blueprints, and maps. Position requires ability to work under stress with constant interruptions and perform multiple concurrent tasks. Ability to perform detailed work, solve problems, use reasoning, and deal with customers is required. Frequently requires working non-traditional, often protracted hours, particularly during construction periods. The candidate for this position must be able to meet the physical requirements necessary to do the job.
Qualifications:
Two or more years of experience in maintenance and repair work associated with public works facilities or the construction trades. Specialized training in construction inspection methods, the use of testing equipment, and experience in the inspection of public improvement projects. Special Qualifications: Possession of a valid Colorado Driver’s license required. Must have a minimum of a Level 1 Water Distribution and a Wastewater Collection certification, a Traffic Control Supervisor certification from the American Traffic Safety Services Association, a Colorado Department of Transportation Erosion Control certification, a Colorado Department of Transportation Level 1 Concrete Inspection certification.
