Description
Plans and coordinates sports tourism programming on behalf of the City’s Parks and Recreation Department; provides for increased tourism revenue to the City; develops, organizes, and implements sports tournaments and events; schedules and coordinates sports field usage; develops and maintains community partnerships; prepares and maintains a variety of program records and documentation; and performs other related duties as assigned.
Examples of Duties
- Oversees and coordinates the City’s sports tourism initiatives, programs, activities, and events.
- Markets and promotes the City of Longview as a premier sporting venue to the public.
- Facilitates increased sports tourism revenue and visitors to the City.
- Bids for, secures, coordinates, implements, and hosts various types of athletic tournaments, playoff games, and/or other types of sporting events.
- Manages, schedules, and coordinates the usage of the City’s youth and adult athletic fields.
- Coordinates with other City departments and community organizations regarding municipal sporting activities and events.
- Responds to a variety of sports programming inquiries and requests from coaches, parents, fans, media representatives, and the general public.
- Develops and maintains partnerships with various sports and/or other community organizations.
- Collaborates with local organizations in the development of a Longview Sports Association.
- Serves as a member of various tourism/sports committees and associations.
- Compiles, calculates, and analyzes statistical data pertaining to sports programs and events.
- Prepares and maintains a variety of sports tourism records, reports, and documentation.
- Performs other related duties as assigned or required.
Minimum Requirements
Education and Experience:
Associate’s Degree in Recreation Administration or related field, and three years sports programming experience; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Required Licenses or Certifications:
- National Incident Management System (NIMS) ICS certifications are required within one year of employment.
- Must possess a valid Texas Driver’s License.
Required Knowledge of:
- Parks and Recreation Department operations, policies, and procedures.
- Sports tourism principles and initiatives.
- Municipal sport programs and facilities.
- Regulations governing sports programming.
- Bid processes and procedures.
- Program records, reports, and documentation.
- Customer service standards and protocol.
Required Skill in:
- Coordinating the City’s sports tourism function.
- Marketing the City of Longview as a premier sporting event locale.
- Attracting increased visitors and sports tourism revenue to the City.
- Organizing and hosting sports tournaments and related events.
- Creating brackets and coordinating the usage of the City’s athletic fields.
- Compiling statistical data and preparing sports tourism records and reports.
- Establishing and maintaining cooperative working relationships with other staff, community groups, sports organizations, vendors, and the general public.
Physical Demands/Work Environment
- Work is performed in a standard office environment and in and around municipal sports facilities.
- Subject to sitting, standing, walking, bending, reaching, and lifting of objects up to 10 pounds.
- Exposure to variable weather conditions and infectious diseases is involved when hosting events.
