What are the responsibilities and job description for the Part-Time - Industrial Pretreatment Inspector - Waste Water Treatment Plant position at City of Longview?
Coordinates and provides for the enforcement of regulations governing the Wastewater Treatment Plant’s TPDES permit and Industrial Pretreatment Programs; conducts Industrial Pretreatment inspections relative to area of assignment; issues permits; responds to public inquiries regarding various types of Industrial Pretreatment matters; investigates and resolves Industrial Pretreatment complaints; prepares and maintains Industrial Pretreatment records and reports; and performs other related duties.Performs inspections of industrial facilities and facilities requiring grease traps; monitors raw water quality; issues industrial wastewater discharge, groundwater discharge, and waste hauler permits. Assists laboratory personnel in performing tests required by the TPDES permit and quality assurance testing. Interprets and provides for the enforcement of local, State, and Federal laws, regulations, codes, and ordinances governing the Wastewater Treatment Plant and the Industrial Pretreatment Program. Responds to environmental violations, concerns, and complaints from the public. Issues written correspondence and notices regarding violations; communicates necessary corrective action required to industrial users, property owners and businesses; follows up to ensure appropriate compliance. Initiates legal action against violators as required; prepares and presents case testimony in court. Responds to emergency incidents involving storm water events, oil/gas spills and/or illegal dumping impacting the City’s water sources. Prepares, updates, maintains, and/or submits a variety of wastewater treatment and pretreatment program records, reports, and documentation. Assists with Backflow Prevention Program. Performs other duties relative to area of assignment as assigned or required. Bachelors Degree in Environmental Science, Biology, Chemistry or any of the Natural Sciences; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Required Licenses or Certifications: Ability to obtain a Class C Wastewater Treatment Plant Operator License within 9 months of meeting state requirements. Must possess a valid Texas Driver’s License.Work is performed in a standard office environment and in the field. Subject to sitting, standing, walking, bending, reaching, kneeling, crouching, crawling, and lifting of objects up to 50 pounds. Exposure to variable weather conditions, vehicle traffic, machinery with moving parts, and noise from equipment operation, electrical currents, hazardous materials/chemicals, infectious diseases, animals/wildlife, and potentially irate members of the public is involved.
