Description
The Longwood Police Department will be administering an employment entrance examination for qualified candidates on the following date: January 24, 2025. This examination process will be for developing an eligibility list for full time police officer positions. This process is open to all applicants who have successfully completed the Florida Basic Law Enforcement Recruit Academy and State Exam or currently enrolled in the Law Enforcement Recruit Academy with a completion date within 60 days of the exam date being a plus. Applicants who have completed or who are enrolled in, must bring proof of the successful completion of the academy and state exam or a letter of good standing from the academy which will need to include the graduation date, along with an official picture identification to the test location.
Candidates for employment must comply with the Body Ornamentation policy which includes tattoos, brands, intentional body/tongue piercing (not including normal piercing of the earlobe for earrings) or mutilation and dental ornamentation. Tattoos, brandings, mutilations, piercings, jewelry implants, or body markings and other body art on an employee’s face, head, neck (above the shoulder blade), or hands are not permitted. Body ornamentation that is visible on the arm below the sleeve of a short sleeve or golf-style shirt is require to be covered by approved uniform. Any visible body ornamentation must be disclosed at the time of application.
Candidates that meet the above conditions should indicate their interest by completing the City of Longwood Police Officer Employment Entrance Examination Application no later than Wednesday, January 22, 2025 at 11:00 am. The LPD Recruitment Team will respond to interested parties via email with test time and location. Upon successful completion of the employment entrance examination, applicants will immediately sit for an interview(s). There are no exceptions to any of the above dates; if you cannot meet all of the scheduling commitments, please wait until another test date is announced in the future.

As a new hire, the guaranteed issue amount for employees to enroll is up to $100,000, up to $25,000 for your spouse and up to $10,000 for your child(ren). Employees are eligible for up to 5x your earnings to a maximum of $500,000. Your spouse is eligible for 50% of your coverage amount. Coverage over the guaranteed issue requires an Evidence of Insurability form.

PENSION
The City provides a Defined Contribution Program through Florida League of Cities; all regular full-time employees are automatically enrolled in this benefit. The City makes a 10% contribution to general employees' pension plan.
The City contributes to the Teamsters (Police), and IAFF employees' pension plan and employees contribute 1% of their salary.
Deferred Retirement - Full-Time regular employees have the option of joining a 457 Deferred Retirement Plan in addition to the Employees' Pension Plan.
Employee Assistance - The City recognizes that personal problems and family member problems can affect work performance and quality of life in general. In an effort to provide support and assistance to employees and dependents, the City is providing this confidential program without cost to employees. Professional consultations cover financial matters, family communications, stress, alcohol/drug problems, emotional/psychological distress and legal problems.
Vacation Leave - The City provides annual paid vacation time off work to eligible full-time employees to allow for rest, recreation and personal activities. Vacation entitlement is based upon service credit.
Sick Leave - Regular full-time employees accrue (8) hours per completed month paid sick leave. Sworn firefighters accrue (12) hours per completed month paid sick leave. Sworn police officers accrue (8.4) hours (equivalent to the number of hours in a scheduled work shift).
