DUTIESA Harbor Public and Community Relations Director plans and directs one or more functions at the Harbor Department that include : media relations, community relations and corporate communications (advertising, customer and employee communications); applies sound supervisory principles and techniques in building and maintaining an effective work force; fulfills equal employment opportunity responsibilities; and does related work.ANNUAL SALARY$129,602 to $189,465NOTE : Annual salary is at the start of the pay range. Please confirm the starting salary with the hiring department before accepting a job offer.REQUIREMENT(S) / MINIMUM QUALIFICATION(S)Current employment with the City of Los Angeles and three years of full-time paid experience with the City of Los Angeles as a Public Information Director; orGraduation from an accredited four-year college or university and eight years of full-time paid professional experience (of which, at least three years of supervising staff) in two or more of the following areas : drafting and dissemination of information using mass communication media relations, public speaking, journalism / news writing, crisis management, advertising / sponsorship, speech writing, community relations or related activities.PROCESS NOTESCandidates who lack six months or less of the required experience at the time of filing may file for this examination. However, they cannot be appointed until the full experience requirement is met.For qualifying work experience in Requirement #2, the term “professional experience” applies to positions that required possession of a degree from an accredited four-year college or university in order to obtain that position. Therefore, to be considered “professional,” qualifying experience must be gained in positions requiring a four-year degree.Please note that qualifying education must be from a school accredited by a City of Los Angeles recognized agency.A valid Class C driver’s license issued by the California Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) is required at the time of appointment.
