Overview
The Louisville Rec Center is looking for energetic and positive Water Aerobics Instructors to teach at our indoor and outdoor pools!
Selected candidates will teach participants in a variety of new water fitness classes. This role offers a free monthly Recreation Center membership including access to a brand new pool and lazy river in our aquatics area!
No certification? No problem! if you are enthusiastic about instructing water fitness classes, we can help you become certified.
Examples of Duties
- Teach scheduled classes, beginning and ending on time; provide adequate warm-up, exercise, stretching, and cool down
- Instruct members on effective workout methods; explain proper techniques, demonstrate exercises; identify different muscle groups, and teach appropriate methods to strengthen specific muscles
- Observe students during class to correct form and exhibit excellent customer service
- Organize class structure using age and ability appropriated exercises
- Maintain a safe and enjoyable atmosphere for class participants
General Qualifications
- Experience and Education:
- Experience teaching water aerobics or other fitness classes preferred.
- Deep and shallow water instruction preferred.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Excellent leadership, communication, and customer service skills.
- Ability to project voice during instruction.

Special License, Registration, or Certificate:
- National Water Aerobic or Aerobic certification required or ability to obtain. We are willing to work with you as you train to get your certification.
- Current CPR certification or ability to obtain. Training and certification provided by City of Louisville Recreation Center as needed.
Additional Information
Physical Requirements of the Job: Must be in good physical condition. Instructor will be doing aerobic exercises in the water using delta bells, thera-bands, and a variety of water fitness equipment. Ability to swim and tread water. Work requires bending and standing. Role frequently involves reaching, sitting, lifting, jumping, swimming, pushing, pulling, walking and the use of hands to finger, handle, or feel; reaching with hands and arms; as well as ability to stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. Requires physically exerting activity. May be required to lift up to 40 lbs. Must be able to see, hear and verbally communicate. May have to speak loudly for participants to hear in a noisy pool environment.
Work Environment :Swimming pool, deep and shallow water, pool deck and surrounding area. Noise level is moderate to high.
