Summary Objective
The purpose of this position is to manage the operation and staff of a community library branch. Develop overall service plan, staff development and branch coordination of library services and programming.
This class works independently, under limited supervision, reporting major activities through periodic meetings.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

- Supervises, directs, and evaluates assigned staff, processing employee concerns and problems, directing work, counseling, disciplining, and completing employee performance appraisals.
- Coordinates, assigns and reviews work and establishes work schedules; maintains standards; monitors status of work in progress; inspects completed work assignments; answers questions; gives advice and direction as needed.
- Assists in budget preparation and monitors and controls expenditures.
- Prepares and submits statistical reports and conducts special projects.
- Conducts research and assists patrons with the selection and location of books and other materials.
- Serves on committees dealing with specific library functions or issues.
- Assists the public with the use of library materials and equipment.
- Receives and attempts to resolve complaints from the public.
- Promotes programs and services of the library in the community.
- Facilitates meetings of various sizes and program magnitude.
- Develops staff training programs.
- Provides customer service, outreach and technology assistance to the public.
- Makes recommendations regarding policy and procedure development and implementation.
- Leads the development and maintenance of materials collections in areas of concentration.
- Works with library leadership to set and monitor progress of branch goals and strategies.
- Ensures building and grounds are properly maintained.
- Manages community library branch programs, events, services and outreach.
- Performs related work as assigned.
