The General Manager works under the direction of the Director of Parks, Recreation, and Open Space, and is responsible for the management of Coal Creek Golf Course maintenance and operations including the associated profit centers: daily green fees, golf carts, season pass sales, golf instruction, practice range facilities, golf shop sales, club repairs, club fitting, and specialty group sales. This role is ultimately responsible for providing a quality golf experience at all levels of play, while incorporating superior customer service, value, programs, services, and environmental stewardship that compliments the community’s values and ideals as a public recreational facility. The successful candidate will work closely with our senior marketing specialists in broadcasting our story and events. In addition, this role will be the liaison with our Food & Beverage concessionaire and our very popular golf leagues for Women and Men.
Hiring Range: $105,809 to $124,34
Full Salary Range: $105,809 to $142,854

- Directly supervise the work output and expectations of the Golf Course Maintenance Superintendent and Golf Professionals
- Create and implement strategies and management of all profit centers, including:
- Golf course green fees
- Annual season pass fees
- Golf cart, push cart, and golf club rentals
- Four practice facilities
- Pro Shop merchandise
- Instructional programming
- Ensure adherence to all City procedures for the acquisition of goods and services along with safe and efficient receipts management from profit centers
- Hire and train an efficient and professional staff to operate the maintenance and golf operations/profit centers while maintaining a safe environment
- Monitor and administer accurate use of Point of Sale system, online tee time system, and dynamic pricing system;
- Work closely with the Marketing & Communications Specialist to accurately and effectively utilize the Coal Creek Golf Course web site and social media channels
- Work closely with the Golf Course Maintenance Superintendent to ensure effective long-term planning for and day-to-day maintenance of the Coal Creek Golf Course. This includes:
- Annual maintenance and capital budgets
- Safety and operations training requirements
- Asset management best practices
- Create and/or implement comprehensive instructional programs that benefit a wide variety of skill levels
- Market, sell, coordinate, and administer local and regional golf outings in conjunction with the Food & Beverage concessionaire
- Oversee the administration of all aspects of the systems that schedule, register, and monitor daily play and tournament activity in coordination with the Golf Course Maintenance Superintendent and 1st Golf Professional including the tee sheet
- Report all revenues and expenses to the Finance Department within established City of Louisville guidelines
- Design and implement pace-of-play programs to achieve high levels of customer satisfaction
- Create high-profile lesson programs capable of attracting and retaining all levels of players to the Course and facilities to maintain a sustainable loyal customer base
- Coordinate the scheduling of play among the general public, seasonal pass holders, golf leagues, and fundraising golf outings
- Enforce Coal Creek Golf Course rules and regulations
- Coordinate all golf activities with the Food & Beverage concessionaire to provide maximum service to golf course guests
- Perform various personnel-related activities:
- Create and update procedures manual to reflect best practices
- Directly or indirectly hire, train, and supervise all current and new golf course employees
- Administer City of Louisville policies and procedures
- Evaluate employee's performance on a regular basis per guidelines
- Oversee all timesheet procedures and hours worked
- Conduct staff meetings
- Schedule staff
- Prepare statistical analysis for validation and evaluation of programs and strategies for the Director of Parks, Recreation, and Open Space, City Council Finance Committee, and the Recreation Advisory Board
- Collaborate with internal and external partners to achieve common goals
- Serve as a professional ambassador of the City; Parks, Recreation, and Open Space Department; Coal Creek Golf Course, and the PGA by maintaining a professional image along with providing and guiding staff in exceptional customer service
Other Duties and Responsibilities:
- Work directly with Food & Beverage concessionaire to provide exceptional customer service, maintenance and repair of all kitchen equipment, and execute all other provisions per the City's contractual agreement
- Collaborate and benchmark current operations with golf staff from other golf courses on all fees, marketing, player development, special events, staffing and maintenance best practices on a regular basis
- Coordinate and implement golf programs for all levels of players
- Participate in all phases of Golf Course website design, development, maintenance, mobile applications, online tee times, building of customer email account base, use of third-party marketing vendor, and development of a customer loyalty program
- Prepare and administer the annual budget for the Golf Course as instructed by the Director of Parks, Recreation, and Open Space
- Bachelor’s degree from college or university with major coursework in business administration, parks & recreation, sports management, agronomy, horticulture, environmental science, landscape architecture or a closely-related field
- Five (5) years of progressive experience as a Golf Professional, Golf Course Maintenance Superintendent or equivilent including experience supervising employees.
- Experience operating a high-volume golf facility with 25,000 or more annual rounds
- Experience in golf shop operations, including merchandise selection, pricing, and revenue projections
- Experience in golf course maintenance operations including horticulture, agronomy, soil science and irrigation
- PGA member working toward a Class A membership
- Class A PGA membership with good standing preferred
- Experience in marketing or general golf course promotions preferred
- An equivalent combination of acceptable education, certification, training, and experience may be considered
- Supervise Golf Course Maintenance Superintendent, First & Second Assistant Golf Professionals, and Associate Golf Professional, Indirectly supervise line-level Operations and full-time Maintenance staff

- Demonstrate thorough knowledge and expertise of golf principles and practices as they apply to management of the business and maintenance functions of a municipal government department, leadership in strategic planning, and creative advancement of the goals of the City through Parks, Recreation & Open Space
License, Certificate or Registration Required:
Current Colorado Driver License in good standing with no major violations in the past three years and must maintain good standing throughout employment.

Work Environment:
Work is performed in a public golf course setting in which instruction and basic golf course operations are performed year-round. Work is performed both indoors and outdoors, and on occasion in inclement weather. The employee regularly works around golf course maintenance equipment and may be exposed to equipment vibration, fumes, airborne particles, and toxic or caustic chemicals. The noise level can range from low to very loud. Travel by automobile is required to attend professional meetings and to coordinate the division's activities with other City departments and outside agencies.
Physical Requirements:
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to speak, read, and hear. Constant hearing to effectively communicate with guests, staff and to be aware of any possible dangers on the golf course is required. The employee is frequently required to stand, use hands, fingers, handle or feel objects, tools, or controls; and reach with hands and arms. The employee is occasionally required to walk, sit, climb or balance, and stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, and reach overhead. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 lbs. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, color vision, peripheral vision, and depth perception. The ability to communicate in a clear and concise manner both in writing and verbally is essential to this position. Interaction with the public and coworkers is an everyday occurrence and requires the ability to direct, negotiate, and mediate.
