The City of Louisville Coal Creek Golf Course needs a master gardener to tend to our flower beds a few days a week.  This position is under the supervision of the Golf Course Superintendent, performing gardening maintenance work in Coal Creek Golf Course’s annual and perennial flower beds, shrub beds, and other landscaped areas on Coal Creek Golf Course. The person exercises considerable independent judgement in the design and maintenance of the associated tasks, working with established departmental standards and City rules and regulations. Performs other work as required. 

Seasonal work is approximately April through October during growing season.  About 2-3 days a week up to 20 to 29 hours a week.   Flexible days and schedule. We can work with your schedule. 
  • Designs and maintains Coal Creek Golf Course annual flower beds, perennial flower beds, shrub beds, and other landscape areas owned by Coal Creek Golf Course. 
  • Repairs and adjusts current irrigation system. Insures adequate watering of landscape and flowers beds and hand waters as needed.  
  • Operation of small power tools and hand equipment used in maintaining landscape and flower beds. 
  • Proper application, timing, and record keeping of fertilizer and chemical. 
  • Communicates with superintendent on inventory, supplies, and materials needed for specific day-to-day jobs
  • Pull weeds, plant flowers 
  • Irrigated flower beds
  • Completion of a high school diploma or GED.
  • Horticulture or landscape experience preferred.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
  • Knowledge of occupational safety rules and protection.
  • Knowledge of required departmental policies and procedures as well as City policies and procedures.
  • Knowledge of plants, soils, and plant care.
  • Knowledge of general landscaping techniques and maintenance.
Physical Requirements of the Job:

Must wear ear protection when operating loud equipment. Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs. without assistance. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to reach with hands and arms, use hands and fingers to handle or feel tools or controls; read, speak and hear. Regularly required to stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl, stand, walk, climb, push/pull, bend, or balance. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.

Work Environment:

Frequent exposure to noise levels may cause distractions. Work is performed in an outdoor environment occasionally in inclement weather conditions including heat, rain, wind and sun. May be exposed to moving mechanical parts; work near moving traffic; fumes or airborne particles; herbicides; and vibrations. Some weekend and holiday work may be required.
