This internship position, within the Department of Cultural Services and under the direction of the Museum Services Supervisor, assists with various museum operations to fulfill the Museum's mission of collecting, sharing, and preserving the community history of Louisville, Colorado. This is a great opportunity to work in a small, City-owned museum that enjoys demonstrated community support and public interest. This position facilitates relationships with the community and encourages visitors to “Be a Part of the Story.”
Schedule: June 3, 2025 - August 8, 2025 for approximately 10 hours per week. Expected work schedule is for three days a week between Tuesday – Saturday with exact schedule to be determined. Maximum number of hours is 100 hours over the 10-week period.
The Museum’s hours of operation are:
Tuesday - 10:00am-3:00pm
Wednesday - 1:00pm-5:00pm
Thursday - 10:00am-3:00pm
Friday - 10:00am-3:00pm
Saturday - 10:00am-3:00pmThis is a great opportunity to work with the Museum staff assisting with the development of the Oral History Program at the Louisville Historical Museum. Work scope will focus on organizing oral histories, preservation, and preparing oral history recordings and transcripts to be accessible to the public. To date, the Louisville Historical Museum’s oral history collection consists of approximately 150 digital video interviews, and an additional 50 people audiotape interviews from the 1970s and 1980s.
The Louisville Historical Museum is seeking a detail-oriented and organized Oral History Intern to assist in processing and cataloging its oral history collection. This internship provides a unique opportunity to engage in archival work, transcription, and working with recorded interviews. The ideal candidate is enthusiastic about public history, digital archiving, and long-term accessibility of oral history materials. This position is ideal for students in history, library science, archives, museum studies, or related fields.
- Review existing oral history interviews, write short summaries of contents, and prepare oral histories for online use.
- Conduct quality control checks on transcripts and audio recordings.
- Edit oral history videos for posting on YouTube and Museum website.
- Ensure proper documentation and verification of interview consent forms.
- May perform other duties as assigned.
- Bachelor's degree or current enrollment as an undergraduate or graduate student in public history or history, museum studies, library science, or archives preferred, experienceworkinginamuseumsetting preferred,oranequivalentcombinationof education and/or experience.
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail, including spelling and typing accuracy.
- Experience or coursework in archival methods, video editing, and transcription preferred.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office and working knowledge of Adobe Premiere Pro is a plus.
- Interest in oral history, community engagement, and historical preservation.
- Ability to take direction and work independently.

WORK ENVIRONMENT:
The work is performed indoors. The noise level in the work environment is usually low.
